tuckasegee: Sometimes We Never Know Where the Day Will Lead - - 11/27/11 03:26 PM

The one thing about real estate is that sometimes we never know when we start out in the morning where our day will lead us.

Back in the summer I headed out to Tuckasegee for new photographs of a land listing that we have. One of the property lines is shared by an old but still active church. As I wandered through the graveyard I was struck by what a risky business it was to be pregnant and have children, there were so many tiny graves with headstones documenting tiny and brief lives.

tuckasegee: Advising an Attorney to Get a Better Umbrella Policy - 11/22/11 08:41 AM

Who are we to advise an attorney to have a better umbrella policy?
One of our favorite closing attorneys asked me to take a ride with her and look at a piece of property with boundary issues. Since it is our listing and I’ve walked the property before, I agreed. Did I also mention this is one of our favorite closing attorneys?
It was hard to find a time frame that would work for both of us since the excursion would be a 2.5-3 hour time commitment, but finally we decided upon last Friday. The weather was gorgeous when I … (4 comments)

tuckasegee: Dear Seller, Are You Kidding? Listing Agent Must Accompany? Really??? - 09/15/11 11:58 PM

Dear Seller, Are you kidding? Listing Agent Must Accompany? Really????

Is this idea a throwback from prehistoric real estate days? Is it a request from sellers or a suggestion from insecure listing agents?  I spent the weekend showing lakefront property in Cashiers, Tuckasegee and Bryson City a couple of weeks ago. Several listings included the statement "Listing Agent Must Accompany". I get it if there are pets in the house. I don't get it for vacant or unoccupied houses! All I know is I have to carefully craft my buyers' schedule to accommodate the Listing Agent's convenience. … (18 comments)

tuckasegee: Gargoyles Can Be Found in Tuckasegee, NC - 07/22/11 11:09 PM

Who would ever have guessed that gargoyles can be found in Tuckasegee, NC? This one and its mate stand atop twin seven foot concrete pillars and are surrounded by expensive wrought iron gates. From Cullowhee take 107 to 281, head north and go about 8 miles.

The weeds are tall and scraggly, having not been attended to in a couple of years. What could these gargoyles be guarding?

Don't you think these are the ancestors of Pekingnese dogs?  But really, gargoyles in Tuckasegee?  Really?

tuckasegee: Planning the Day in the Mountains of Western North Carolina - 07/17/11 08:03 AM
Another beautiful cool morning today here to be planning my day in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  Such a treat to be able to sit with the sliding glass doors open and the blogging muse is free to wander in.  There's some kind of crow conference going on outside and it seems to be a pretty spirited conversation.  Has anyone else noticed how big crows are getting?  Here they seem to be as big as ducks but with shorter necks.
Ever since the apple tree next to the deck fell a month ago, the view to the rest of the … (2 comments)
