maine snowmobiling: Myth Buster About Northern Climate Living - Take Maine, Winter Is Not Inside And Hibernation! - 03/22/09 02:42 PM
If you had never lived where there is snow, you could think tundra, igloos, darkness round the clock. It's not like that and this Maine community video shows that. No unhappy people in this one and yes, it's winter. Four seasons, real seasons have their benefits. Do you enjoy outdoor living where you are and what do you like about your area of the planet? Maine is up here in the right hand corner of the world, and Mars Hill Maine's Big Rock is right on the Canadian border like much of Aroostook County. Since 1960 Big Rock Ski Area

maine snowmobiling: Have Fun! Hop On A Maine Snow Sled, See The Heart Of "Vacationland"! - 02/10/09 10:19 PM
You've never been on a snowsled. You have not down hill skied much. You think both will be cold..and a dark gloomy experience. On the contrary, you will see sunsets on top of a mountain, deer, moose, and lots of tracks of the inhabitants of forest and wildnerness lakes whether you are on a snowsled or on skis. You get to places you can not access by car as there are no roads in the middle of unorganized townships in Aroostook County. Round up your friends, plan your trip, rid yourself of winter cabin fever. Bring the whole family and

maine snowmobiling: World's Tallest Snowman Is A Woman In Bethel Maine! 122 Feet Tall! - 01/02/09 08:07 AM
As a kid in the Northeast, I remember building snow forts, digging elaborate tunnels and constructing snowman in the back yard with neighbor kids. The snowman we Maine kids built depended on the temperature, kind of snow and the size/ ambition of the work force of kids. What's that large shadow? It's from Olympia...a mountain of snow built by the Maine town of Bethel that already held the record for tallest snowman. Over 13 million pounds and over 122 feet tall! In winter, Maine kids don't hibernate inside camped out on the couch vegging on television and video

maine snowmobiling: Maine Winters Are Not So Long When You Join A Snowmobile Club & Socialize! - 01/22/08 11:43 AM
Trail rides, poker runs, public suppers, silent auctions, dances with local music, children's christmas parties, beano, bingo and fun working on improving trails. Something for everyone so no reason to stay inside with a tv remote in one hand sitting on the couch while old man winter passes by slowly. Join a local Maine snowmobile club, take a turn running the tucker or groomer, help finish off that bridge over a river, cut a new trail thru the brush, put up signage so tourists on snowmobiles don't get lost and help them find gas, lodging, places to eat. Snowmobiles are

maine snowmobiling: When I Was 10, A Johnson Skee Horse Snowsled Was Pretty Hot Stuff On The Snow! - 12/14/07 07:32 PM
The Johnson Skee Horse like the one pictured from 1966 was a 14 horsepower screamer for the time. As long as you were on a driveway, hard crust or a frozen lake, it ran super. But due to the extreme weight, if you got off the trail in three feet of new white powder, you did not go far until you bottomed out and sunk. Then it was wait until spring or coax one of my three older brothers to help me dig it out. The sled had a habit of the throttle sticking so once went air borne over
