There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer. In small towns folks have to pitch in and serve. There are only so many people and they have to take their turn to pitch in. Consider you live in a town that is 6 x 6 miles in rural Northern Maine. The population is under 60 people. Someone has to be the town manager, serve on the board of selectman or be the head selectman to keep continuity in the town to avoid deorganization to let the state take over. in Houlton Maine June 21st! And the winner of the Stock division was Sara Heath..for Super Stock Lucas Grant came out on top! Safe race, families helps the drivers and a big party afterward at Community Park!

Weather is a drug...a good elixir for whatever ails you. Maine had an old fashioned winter with record snowfall like many northern states. So as the sunshines, snow melts, locals are venturing out to rake lawns, walk at dusk, and to just be glad to be outside full time as season's change. Maine canoe races underway with plenty of water for spring paddling in canoes and kayaks. Plans for opening summer homes, taking school vacations with kids, building decks, washing down home exteriors, and general busy bee industry is evident thru out Maine. The Red Sox were on the radio this morning at 6:45 playing ball in Tokyo, Japan! It was snowing in Houlton, Maine as Elliot and I ate our cornflakes.
It struck me as hard to believe baseball has started again in Red Sox Nation, while a regular snow fall of 180+ inches in Aroostook County continues to break records with new snow coming down as I blog this morning. Little league in Houlton Maine will be having sign ups, the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby 13th race is approaching. With all the winter snow, wonder how it may affect these events. … (8 comments)

Year 13 for the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby race on Derby Hill. Youngsters 8 to 17 learn "the thrill of the hill" with gravity racer stock, super stock and master race kit cars. Houlton Maine's 2008 race is June 21st.My daughter Amanda and son Alex won different years during the five year largest race reign. Close to 200 cars raced during the 1998 and 2001 years!
