Will Your Heating Costs Go Down This Winter? - 10/29/09 08:14 PM
There seems to be some good news for homeowners in the colder parts of our country, which of course include Glenview and Wilmette. Warmer temperatures are expected this winter which may lead to lower heating costs. According to the Energy Information Administration, those heating with propane this winter may be able to lower their costs by as much as 14% from last winter. Natural gas bills could drop by 12% but houses that use electric heat may only see a 2% reduction. While warmer weather is part of the reason for these expected savings, natural gas supplies are also up making

We hear talk about "sleepy little bedroom communities" but what exactly is a bedroom community? Here's a bit of the history and a few characteristics of today's bedroom communities. First of all, bedroom communities first started springing up shortly after the end of World War II when people decided they'd rather raise their families in smaller communities, but yet they needed to be close to where the work was located, which was in the cities. Technically, the name bedroom community refers to a smaller town where its residents come to sleep, while most of their other day-to-day activities happen in the

Things to Consider When Buying Your Next Home in Wilmette or Glenview - 10/20/09 08:05 AM
When looking for a new home in Wilmette or Glenview, be sure the location suits your needs. Is the neighborhood full of kids while your family is more mature? Will you really use that community tennis court that looks so nice down the street? There are often many amenities that look great but that in reality, you'll probably never use. This line of thinking can apply to the house you purchase as well. Although you may like the flooring in the kitchen or the beautiful drapes may have really caught your eye, there's more to a home than just the decorating.

Why Isn't My Northbrook Home Selling? - 10/11/09 01:24 PM
Why isn't my home selling is the lament of many home sellers, and it is a legitimate one. Of course, the most obvious answer in today's economy is that it is a slow market, and many houses are languishing through no real fault of the homeowner. Price is a big factor in selling a home in a slow market. Homes that are priced too high may not even be looked at by prospective buyers. And if buyers aren't looking, they certainly aren't making offers that can be negotiated and accepted. There may be other factors affecting a sale that simply can't

Is a Northbrook Home in Foreclosure a Good Deal? - 10/02/09 01:54 PM
If you're looking for a Northbrook home in foreclosure thinking it will be a great bargain, you may be right. But don't forget, that home didn't go into foreclosure overnight. The homeowner had to miss a lot of payments in order to be foreclosed on. Taking this a step further, if mortgage payments were missed, chances are other maintenance and repairs were not completed as needed either. It's possible and even probable that heating and air conditioning systems haven't been serviced in a timely manner, the water heater hasn't been drained in awhile, and drains may be clogged or slow-running.
