It's that time of year again. Winter is finally behind us and spring is slowly but surely turning into summer in Glenview. You've probably already had the grill fired up a few times. Lots of northern residents cook outside year 'round, in spite of the sometimes nasty weather we can have.
This is the time of year when we also have to take a good look at our decks to make sure all is well, especially with wooden decks. Besides the checkup, your deck will also need a thorough cleaning to get ready for summer.

Should the Paint in Your Glenview Home Be of Concern? - 05/13/10 08:10 AM
Many current home owners, home sellers and home buyers in Glenview or Wilmette, may not spend a lot of time considering the paint that is already on the walls of these homes, other than to decide if they like the color. However, approximately two-thirds of the homes built prior to 1940 contain heavily-leaded paint as do half of those built between 1940 and 1960. This is contributing to lead poisoning, which is still a common environmental problem for today's children.
As of April of 2010, contractors performing projects including painting, renovation and repair in private homes, childcare facilities and schools built … (2 comments)

Listen up, Greater Chicago Military Service people! Due to the fact that lots of today's military personnel have been out of the U.S. on "official extended duty" between January 1, 2009 and April 30, 2010, the U.S. government has decided to extend the Home Buyer's Tax Credit to qualified service members until April 30, 2011.
The government's definition of a qualified service member is one who is a "member of the uniformed services of the U.S. military, a member of the Foreign Service of the U.S., or an employee of the intelligence community."
Another perk for service members receiving the tax … (2 comments)

The River in Glenview: Getting Back Her Curvy Figure - 05/06/10 08:56 AM
Current Glenview residents may not realize that the river that now flows through Glenview does not have the same shape as the river that ran through here 100 years ago. Back then, the river meandered through Glenview, creating wetlands that acted as natural filters for the drinking water and serving as a natural habitat for much of Glenview's wildlife.
Eventually, as the shape of Glenview changed so did the shape of the West Fork of the Chicago River's North Branch. In time the water was channeled into a man-made ditch, taking on today's straight shape instead of its original curvy lines.

All About Appraisers - 05/04/10 08:31 AM
If you're getting ready to sell your home in Glenview or Wilmette, you've probably heard the word "appraiser" mentioned a time or two. But for those new to home selling, this word may send an involuntary shiver down your spine. So let's take a look at just what an appraiser does.
Setting the price is one of the major parts of selling a home. While your realtor will be able to search out comparable homes in your area to see what they sold for, an appraiser is an unbiased observer and inspector. When finding the right appraiser for your home, be sure … (4 comments)
