In the good old days of the mortgage industry (meaning three years ago) there were two categories of loans: Conventional or jumbo.
Conventional loans were limited to balances under $417,000 and were "backed" by Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. Jumbo loans were "backed" by a variety of other private investors or banks, and encompassed any loan in excess of $417,000.

The latest numbers from MRIS (Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, Inc.) are out, and there is very good news for the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Compared to October 2009, the median sales price of a home is up more than 4%. Nationwide, home prices are down 2.4% compared to September 2009.
