Possible Bed and Breakfast Issue in Williamston Going to Court - 07/31/09 11:21 AM
I found this interesting and was wondering how I would feel about it if it was the house beside me. It seems a family in Williamston wants to get zoning changed to allow them to run a B & B.
Laurie Sundberg has petitioned the town to allow a stately home at 101 Pelzer Avenue to be used for a Bed and Breakfast. The house was built by James Pleasant Gossett in 1898 and was referred to by the family as “The Oaks.” The house is in a residential area one block off Main Street and a zoning variance would have … (2 comments)

Broadway Lake SC Spill Gate is Repaired - 07/28/09 02:11 PM
You may remember way back in March when heavy rains took a toll on the spillgate at Broadway Lake. Well I am glad to say it has finally been repaired and is back in service. The gates were sealed Monday and the lake is now slowly going back to its more normal level. It may take about 2 days of rain to get the lake back to its normal level.
The gate project cost $74,000 and was completed five days ahead of schedule which I am sure made the residents of Broadway Lake very happy.

Clemson Makes Princeton Review's Top 20 - 07/28/09 11:51 AM
If your blood runs orange you will be glad to know that Clemson University is the nation's top “jock school” and has the best relations with its college town, according to top 20 lists in the Princeton Review's new “Best 371 Colleges” book hitting newsstands on Tuesday.
In addition to Clemson's two first place rankings, the university ranked second for happiest students and its Michelin Career Center ranked third nationally among career services. Clemson ranked fifth in intramural sports participation and 10th in quality of life. I would have thought the quality of life would have been even higher considering the … (0 comments)

Funds Approved for New High School in Powdersville - 07/09/09 10:25 AM
Anderson School District One Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $27,444,292 building package for Powdersville High School during a special called meeting Thursday. The last time District One built a high school was in 1972 when Palmetto and Wren High were built.
I just wonder how much it cost to build 2 high schools in 1972 compared to one high school today? And an article in the Independent I read talked about how the bids came in lower than expected for this project due to the slow economy. And since the economy is hurting in South Carolina, this is a great … (0 comments)

Meals on Wheels Plans Fundraisers in Pickens County SC - 07/09/09 10:17 AM
I might be a big guy, but that means I have a big heart. I love animals, kids and have a deep respect for those that have a few more years experience than me. Sometime when a person gets older it gets harder to do some of the every day tasks such as cooking. My very own grandmother had this problem and Meals on Wheels was able to help her by dropping off nutritious meals several days a week. My grandmother was one of the toughest people I ever met, but she even needed a helping hand in her later years. … (0 comments)

My Secret Reason For Owning a Home - 07/07/09 10:26 AM

So I really enjoy fireworks. And I hate the crowds at most of the public displays. There is no doubt that there are many great memories from the years I have been getting together with friends and family to celebrate the 4th. And owning my home means every year we can celebrate in style with no headaches from the traffic. Of course we have to play it safe, remember that fireworks are dangerous! But our home grown displays rival anything you could see elsewhere.
Cooking burgers on the grill, potato salad, all the fixings. Friends, fireworks and celebrating … (3 comments)
