Win $10000 to Improve the Energy Efficiency of Your South Carolina Home - 08/31/09 02:06 PM
Seven electric cooperative families will win up to $10,000 in energy efficiency upgrades this fall as part of the “Help My House” contest from the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina.
Does your home need help? Does it suffer from inadequate attic and floor insulation? Are certain rooms prone to overheating in the summer and are never warm enough in the winter?
If so, you’re not alone. Fact is, most of the homes in South Carolina are not energy efficient. The average homeowner spends about $1,900 a year on home utility bills, but a large portion of that money is wasted.  More … (2 comments)

With the recent news about how much the housing bust has cost America, if you are in the market to sell your Upstate SC home, you may be worried. How is it possible, can I do it?
Without a doubt , now is not the time to waste money or time by attempting the immense task on your own. Every month that goes by without selling is costing you money! I know it might seem easy, but in this market the professionalism of a REALTOR is a must.
With all the available information in the Internet or with the use of … (2 comments)

Running Around in the Middle of the Night - 08/22/09 12:07 PM
In my younger days I was quite the night owl and was known to stay out until the sun came up. But now I am usually ready for the bed early, and since the wife has started back to her job at TL Hanna, she is ready for bed early too.  Sometimes though, something comes along worth staying up late for.
Like the People's Bank 30th Annual Midnight Flight in Anderson on Friday, September the 4th. There is a 1 mile, 5K and 10K run and you need to visit the Midnight Flight website to check out all the details. It … (0 comments)

Just Around the Corner - 08/21/09 01:39 PM
With the recent news that we just saw the 4th month in a row of increased sales for existing-home sales according to the National Association of Realtors®. So is the recovery for housing just around the corner?
But on a local level, since real estate is local, what does this mean for Upstate SC? I am not going to feed you some line that everything is great but it is getting better. With every day that the economy gets better, the housing market is going to get better. Because I deal with so many people from other areas of the country … (0 comments)

Pickens Schools Get Top ACT in South Carolina - 08/21/09 01:24 PM
Is there something in the water? Because I just found out that high school students in Pickens and Anderson District 1 who took the ACT college entrance exam scored better, on average, than their peers nationally and statewide, according to numbers released today by the state. The average composite score in Pickens was 22.6 for the 2009 academic year, while Anderson 1 high schoolers scored a composite 21.8, according to the state Department of Education. Pickens students' scores were ranked first in the state among 2009 graduating high school students in that district who took the test.
It sounds like we … (0 comments)

A Great Place to Eat in Honea Path South Carolina - 08/20/09 10:06 AM
I happened to find one of my favorite types of restaurants yesterday in Honea Path. The Kitchen and Bakery at 26 N Main in Honea Path is a nice place I would recommend checking out. You can experience made from scratch foods and everything is made when ordered so you are not talking about the typical fast food or corporate owned, 1000 restaurants and they are all the same thing here. No sir, real food made with top quality ingredients. And it is fresh. The atmosphere is quiet, calm and relaxing and the staff will not let your drink get more … (2 comments)

If You Are Scared Then Get out of the Way - 08/14/09 03:39 PM
The future ain't what it used to be. Yogi Berra

In these turbulent and changing economic times, it is too easy to sit back and wait for things to change. Earlier this week, I talked to a friend who has seen good times and bad. And bounced back from the bad to soar with the eagles. His philosophy? Nothing ventured nothing gained. He has taken chances based on much thought and deliberation, and made money. A lot of money.
It may be hard to imagine taking chances but in todays market, and with the economy like it is, there are … (3 comments)

You already know that there are many new businesses relocating to Upstate SC. If you are one of those business owners that are moving relocating there then you should consider seeking the assistance of a licensed REALTOR. National Guard Could Leave Anderson County - 08/12/09 06:17 PM
The decision about whether Anderson County’s National Guard remains in Anderson County will happen at a state Budget and Control Board meeting this week. The federal government have budgeted up to $12 million for the Guard to purchase the 75,000-square-foot building on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Anderson. The building is the former Lowe’s store right down the street from Brewster's Ice Cream and the Anderson Mall.
If the Guard does not buy the building, the Guard may relocate and take hundreds of jobs with it! There are 70 full-time soldiers and staff and 521 part-time soldiers and in this … (0 comments)

Pickens County SC School District Names Employee Honor Roll - 08/11/09 11:52 AM
Interesting blurb in upstatetoday that in my opinion should have been front page top center because it talks about people that are working hard to make Pickens County an even better place to live!
The School District of Pickens County has named its 2009-10 Honor Roll Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the Year selections. The Support Employee of the Year and Teacher of the Year winners will be announced at a Back to School Celebration broadcast from the district to all schools on August 28.

Low Cost Ideas to Help Sell Your Upstate SC Home - 08/08/09 12:22 PM
You can’t always predict what will capture a home buyers’ fancy (or what will turn them off). But most buyers respond to certain things, such as a clean, clutter-free home in good repair. Homes that owners keep in tip-top shape for showings garner higher offers than homes that aren't ready for showtime. You might have already suggested that clients paint their homes or do some major repairs. But other small-scale details can prove just as important in creating a salable home. Here are ten small-scale suggestions that you can give to help sellers prepare their homes for showings.

Oconee Station State Historic Site in Oconee County SC - 08/02/09 10:17 AM
I had the great joy of visiting Oconee Station yesterday in Oconee County and would highly recommend visiting. The Station Cove Falls are a must see and are a short and easy walk from Oconee Station or an even shorter and easier walk from a smaller parking area just upn the road from the entrance at Oconee Station.

An Underrated Advantage of Owning a Home - 08/02/09 09:51 AM
"Human beings are the only creatures on earth that allow their children to come back home."  Bill Cosby

As a REALTOR, I often preach about the advantages of owning your own home. Without a doubt one the great things as King or Queen of your castle is the chance to help out family members with a safe place to stay at the drop of a hat.
With the economy in the crapper according to many, it is these troubling times that make family so important. Sure we all want the best for our offspring and sometimes tough love is called … (5 comments)
