google: ActiveRain Goal Setting 2010 & Another Milestone - 700 Blog Articles Published - - 12/19/09 07:43 PM
This is a quick note - more to myself than anyone else but I just wanted to document my progress with ActiveRain and achieving my 700th Blog Post in just a few days under 3 years. My first blog post on ActiveRain, was first published on December 26th, 2006.  Today is December 19th, 2009.Since I have already published over 10 blog articles this week - there won't be any points for this - unless if I receive some comments - but that is not what this is all about.  This is establishing a point in my blog and setting goals.  As of … (23 comments)

google: The Creature Called "Google" Grows and Grows...Despite a Downturn Economy - 12/15/09 11:45 PM
Google is an amazing creature...it seems as if it is impossible to stop it's growth - yet most of what it does is free for the user.
Google has become a way of life for many who use the Internet - on either a personal or professional level...and in most cases both.  What started as a fast and accurate search engine has literally changed all things Internet.  What they did not create on their own - they acquired with very generous payday for those who were lucky enough to be bought out.I love Google. So flipping through and researching I came across a … (23 comments)

google: I found a New Resource and a Great Video On Google Maps - 12/12/09 02:00 AM
I was reading though some blogs, trying to keep up - my late night ritual before I head off to bed.  I found a post talking about the problems that Google is having with its new 'real time' search of Tweets.  Unfortunately, the post was marked Members Only and could not be re-blogged.I noticed the source of the Video was from the "WebProNews" (WPN) - and I had never seen this before.  IT was a great interview - very professional with sample screen shots displayed as appropriate - I was genuinely impressed and disappointed that I have missed this, so far.So, … (16 comments)

google: Where Were You When Google... - 10/29/09 11:30 PM
Just saw a new video released by Google that is a fun little history lesson sharing many of the innovations that Google introduced to the world...that are now common place.Check out this short video and see how many of these highlights spark some sort of memory.  For me, I started thinking about the first time I used each of these apps.  Heck, I still use the same Gmail account I got back in 2004 - and still have my first emails in archive...and most of them since then.
All I gotta say is i am more than ready for Google Wave, … (10 comments)

google: Cool Things To Do Wtih Your Cell Phone - 10/26/09 08:56 AM
One Good Google leads to another...especially on a brain dead Sunday Morning, while still nursing that first cup of highly caffeinated coffee.
I just posted a video about Google 411 - probably isn't breaking news, since there were over 5 million views of the Video on YouTube - but I can guarantee that most people I know don't know a thing about it.Well, as I continued with my morning surf I came across another video published on YouTube, by Google.  I don't want to go over the top and say it is hilarious, but I can guarantee no matter how grumpy … (4 comments)

google: Another Cool Google Tool...and Yes, It's FREE - 10/26/09 08:54 AM
OK, so during my early morning wake up coffee hour of mindlessly surfing the Internet I came across a YouTube video about yet another free service that Google is providing.  In this case it is for your cell phone.Cell carriers have notoriously charged an expensive premium everytime a user called 411 for information on a business.
There have been free services, but they typically had you listen to 30 seconds (an eternity) or more of phone ads in order to access the information you were seeking. It should be no surprise that Google has built the better mouse trap.  Google, you know, recently got … (8 comments)

google: Google Maps can be edited... - 10/23/09 01:46 AM
I was frustrated because whenever I searched for may address on Google Maps it took me about a block east of where my office is located.  Now, this might not seem like such a big deal...but it was, and let me tell you why.
The photos that went with the location showed a vacant field...yikes.  I am in the newest and brightest and best neighborhood shopping center in the entire Hemet - San Jacinto Valley, CA.  And when people look for directions, they find a vacant field...no way.So, I stumbled and played around a bit...not exactly what happened, but it happened.  … (12 comments)

google: Google Still L O V E S ActiveRain - And I got the Proof! - 10/12/09 10:15 AM
This will be short and sweet - but to the point.  That's right, Google Lovers ActiveRain.Last night, about 10:30 local time I posted a blog about buying short sales in my local market, Hemet, CA - How to Buy a Short Sale House - Hemet, CA .

I wrote this blog as a challenge to myself, since earlier that day I posted, When In Doubt...Search giving ideas on how to find the terms that are being searched on Google and then compiling a list of relevant terms. For my exercise, I had searched about 10 keywords/phrases and triple scrubbed the list … (12 comments)

google: 500 and Still Swinging... - 10/11/09 02:33 PM
The saying that time flies when you're having fun definitely applies to blogging on ActiveRain.  500 Blog Posts have been a journey for me that started back in 2006.  Like a lot of journeys, this one has had more than it's share of pit stops and layovers.I think back to my first introduction to ActiveRain when I read a short blurb about the new phenomena of blogging for real estate agents in my daily update of industry news from Inman News, where I proceeded to this new website offering free blogs to those in the real estate industry.  So I signed … (59 comments)

google: My ActiveRain Success Story - 10/03/09 02:27 PM
I just posted much of this to my ActiveRain Profile - but it seems to have gone elsewhere - not sure...so I thought I would repost as an actual blog post to share with all who follow me here in the Rain...

google: Has Anyone seen the New WAVE from Google? - 10/03/09 01:33 AM
I was just reading through some random blogs and discovered that Google has just taken email to yet another entirely new level and they call it "The Wave".I found a video that pretty much breaks it down to look at and give a fairly clear overview of the new system.  It actually is like a social media on steroids - maybe this is what web 3.0 will be like?
What I also found out is that Google only sent out 100,000 invitations to use the new service with no announcement of when it will be rolled out on a larger scale,,,my … (31 comments)

google: Learn More About The Hemet- San Jacinto Valley: Check Out Google Earth - 05/15/08 10:05 AM

This is my house - in the Foothills of Hemet, California

The Hemet – San Jacinto Valley is not a typical location that many people relocate to because of the traditional reasons, such as a job or school.  The Hemet  San Jacinto Valley is a rather isolated destination, tucked into the base of Mount San Jacinto and surrounded by the Soboba Indian Reservation to the North and East and Diamond Valley Lake to the South. In order to get a good clear vies of the area, Google has some pretty amazing satellite imagery that you can download for free … (0 comments)

google: 2007 Real Estate Buyer – Did They Use the Internet? - 01/20/08 12:12 PM
How do I answer that with anything but a big fat DUH? The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) recently released it’s 2007 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.  The conclusions are not at all surprising.  If anything, what surprises me is how conservative the numbers are that they report. For example, NAR reports that only 84% of all of the home buyers across the entire country used the Internet (100% of my personal deals were influenced one way or another by the Internet <thank you ActiveRain> – even personal referrals and such)– which coincidently is the exact same percentage of home … (3 comments)

Brad Andersohn Has a Target on His Back   by John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR®   Hemet CA Real Estate                                                                                                                                              That's right, I've said it and now it's public.  No going back now, is there. What, you must be thinking, how can I say something so evil and spiteful about such a strong contributor to the ActiveRain community?  You must be thinking, "That John Occhi is one heck of a troublemaker - what is he up to now?"Well the truth is I am gunning for Brad's position in the State of California to be the #8 Blogger (Again) in all of ActiveRain.  … (25 comments)

google: Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain - 08/06/07 11:10 PM
Let it Rain, Let it Rain, Let it Rain   by John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR®   Hemet CA Real Estate   I hear many in my market and across the Internet complain about the housing market and how horrible business is right now.
I don't get it?
I will do more business in 2007 than any other year in Real Estate.  Now, I may not make as much money - but then again I might make more.  In previous years I was working in the Temecula Murrieta market, where the average home sold for around $500,000.  In April, I moved my business to Mission Grove … (86 comments)

google: Lead Generation Evolves in Real Estate - 07/11/07 11:12 AM
Lead Generation Evolves in Real Estateby John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR   Hemet CA Real Estate   I just posted an opinioned review of an article on a topic that is very relevant and near to my heart and that is putting the lead aggregators out of business.  OK. The referenced article was not on a RANT like I have been known to be - but is was awesome,  - so if  you get a chance, check out Google as a Lead Strategy .
In the original article, they have some great information on a variety of locations to advertise on the Internet as … (6 comments)

google: Google as a Lead Strategy - 07/11/07 10:58 AM
Google as a Lead Strategy   by John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR   Hemet CA Real Estate   I just read a fascinating article on the Inman News, by the same title as this article. The discussion is very relevant to the argument of why I wrote "RANT: Why a REALTOR should NEVER "BUY" a Lead".  They just said it better than I did.I think they did a great job of showing the power of lead aggregators and why we as individual and independent REALTORS need to be aware of where our hard earned money is going if we think that buying leads is OK.  … (12 comments)

Has Google Gone to Far, this Time?   By John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTOR   Hemet CA Real Estate
It has just been brought to my attention that the Google search bar is now a nationwide reverse telephone directory! That's right, go ahead any type in your phone number (555-555-1212) into Google and your name ad address appear with a link to map out your exact location.
I know that Google prides itself in the amount of information they gather and the profiles they build on each of us based on our web use - but come on Google, a little privacy please.
Now, I understand … (16 comments)

google: Active Rain & Google - a September 2007 Follow-Up - Originally Poste January 2007 - 01/24/07 08:29 PM
Active Rain & Google - a Follow-Up & Some New Tips:  On January 11th, I wrote an article about the effect that ActiveRain has had on my search engine results, specifically with achieving a page one ranking on Google, in just 15 days.
I just wanted to offer a follow-up, two weeks later, as I had been warned that it might only be a temporary thing - one that could change overnight.  I was also warned on several occasions that the techniques I shared in my article were unethical and that Google would quickly catch on and banish me from the search … (10 comments)

google: Where Did You Get That Marketing Piece? - 01/14/07 11:08 PM
Where Did You Get That Marketing Piece?by John Occhi, Hemet CA REALTORHemet, CA Real Estate As REALTORS we are exposed to so much marketing material. Some of it good and some of it is mediocre.  Some we keep and use - other files we just save on our computer, for a later date, perhaps.
When we gain access to this material, some agents just take it as it is and make it their own.  Perhaps they have the ‘rights' to do so and perhaps they don't - after all, who will ever really know, right?  Well, if you put it on … (2 comments)
