Mortgage bond prices were near unchanged last week holding Connecticut mortgage rates steady. Trade was extremely volatile with swings of 1/2% in discount points common. The Treasury auctions were not as well received by foreign accounts as traders were hoping. The US relies on foreign central banks such as China to fund our deficit spending. However, some of the data came in surprisingly better than expected Thursday and Friday which caused mortgage bond prices to fall and rates to rise. Some borrowers may be tempted to hold out in hopes that rates will fall even more. The Federal Reserve has already reduced short-term rates by 1.25 points already and has signaled that it might cut rates even more in the next few months. But … (0 comments)
