Home Sweet Home Inspection Tip of the Week - 08/31/08 12:39 PM
I love my job. Yes, I will say it again. I love my job. I never know what I will find from inspection to inspection. Every home is different. Every home provides me with a unique experience and a chance to learn and discover things that I never thought possible. Every home teaches me that not all homes are created equal. Home inspectors are not omniscient. Some may portend to be but inspectors as a whole, are learning every day we are on a job. There is no one size fits all category when inspecting homes. That's what makes my job (2 comments)
Success of a Pre-listing Inspection - 08/27/08 10:42 AM
I received a call this morning from a client I did a pre-listing inspection for about 3 months ago. He told me that he is in contract and the buyer just had their inspection done and only one thing was found. One thing! Missing screws for a face plate cover. How awesome is that. I did find many areas of concern that he did address to get his home in tip top shape. Decayed siding and trim he took care of. Caulking issues on the exterior of the home and in the interior of bathrooms. Repaired glazing on sashes and peeling (3 comments)
The Home Sweet Home Inspection Tip of the Week - 08/24/08 07:59 PM
Gutters - Finally we get some needed rain. It pours for 15 minutes then the sun comes out for 20 then it pour for 5 minutes and so on and so on. Of course it figures that we were having my wife's birthday party outside at the pool. Six weekends of no rain, set the party date and what happens, Murphy's Law at work. The party did go off without a hitch. I have to admit to you all that I am guilty of what I have been preaching in my Home Sweet Home Inspection Tips Of The Week. Maintenance, Maintenance, (3 comments)
Ethics/Moral Dilemma? - 08/19/08 11:21 AM
This is something I heard that enlightened me to what realtors do. I believe I have the info right and I would just like to share it with you all. I had a conversation the other day with a realtor who was in negotiations on a listing she has. The realtor was dealing with the buyers agent, who happened to be close friends with the buyers mother. The buyers mother is a licensed realtor but has been inactive in the real estate market for the past two years so she had her friend get the ball rolling. Once the initial (3 comments)
The Home Sweet Home Inspection Tip of the Week - 08/17/08 07:41 PM
Garage doors are probably one of the most overlooked doors in our homes. We can use them up to 15 times a day over a thousand times a year. Does anyone ever do any preventative maintenance on them? Probably not. Just another part our homes that we take for granted. There are some easy inspections that we can do to make sure that are doors are in good shape. First off, look for loose bolts on the door and the track that is attached to the jamb. With a door going up and down so many times it's inevitable that these (0 comments)
Just Do It - 08/15/08 12:32 PM
Nike has got it right. Just Do It. That's why I'm going to finally start blogging. What am I going to blog about? Inspections of course. What I find. Issues I deal with. Maintenance on homes. Being Green in our homes. Foreclosures. Pre-listing inspections. Radon testing. Warranty inspections. HVAC Systems. Plumbing. Flooring. Painting. Roofing. Siding. Foundations. Framing. Electrical. Drainage. Etc Etc I think you all get the point. I did an inspection this week for a client who put an offer on a foreclosure that was accepted. I let my client know that because it is a foreclosure I would need all the (0 comments)
