"A Thing Long Expected..." - 12/29/08 08:24 PM
"A thing long expected takes the form of the unexpected when at last it comes" - Mark Twain
Mr. Twain's words sum up, for me anyway, exactly what we've experienced over the last two years in my local real estate world.
For months we were barraged with media reports and Chicken Little articles telling us the real estate bubble was going to burst and that the sky market would soon be falling. But many of us thought it couldn't happen to us. Our markets were going strong, houses were selling, life was good..... but deep down, I think we knew the wave we were … (18 comments)

Ok, It's Not So Bad... - 12/21/08 03:48 PM
Fortunately we didn't lose power during last night's storm. I didn't sleep well (wind can be LOUD!) and our Furnace decided to go on strike about 2 am which didn't make things any cozier.
But sometimes being snowbound can be fun (at least that's how I'm choosing to look at the blizzard outside my window). I'm catching up on emails and just opened this from a past client. I thought I'd share in case anyone else could use a chuckle. Thanks for the laugh Cori, and for helping me put this weather in perspective....it could be worse!

Waiting....Maple Valley Storm Watch - 12/20/08 11:11 AM
Yesterday I received an email from our local Chamber of Commerce, forwarded from the City of Maple Valley regarding a NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Association) storm warning. The language of the email was pretty concerning:
"NOAA considers a warning to be an imminent or occurring weather event. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND CONSIDERED TO BE AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. People should plan to stay indoors if at all possible starting Saturday morning."

Maple Valley is located close to the Cascade Mountain foothills and often bears the brunt of the wind storms (along with Northbend & Enumclaw). We typically … (13 comments)

Home Shopping Now...What's On Your List Today? - 12/18/08 12:59 PM
If you're among the lucky ones who are ready and able to buy your first or next home now or in the near future you're likely to find yourself many options from which to choose.
Whenever I meet with new clients for the first time, I usually try to determine their wants vs. needs. A need would be the main floor bedroom because Grandma visits often and can't navigate stairs, or a fenced yard because Fido can't stay in the house all day. A want would be more along the line of a luxurious Master bathroom with heated marble floors and a jetted soaking … (4 comments)

Finally....I'm In the Holiday Spirit! - 12/13/08 07:33 PM

Although the whole thing has given Carson cold feet, our little Northwest "Winter Storm" (conveniently falling on a Friday night)has done what nothing heretofore has been able to do....get me in the Christmas spirit
It started about 8 pm last night

And even though by this morning, the snow was a very heavy mantle on the birch tree

And it was about as gray a morning as I'd seen in a long, long time (no, this photo was not taken in Black and White...it was just that "blah" this morning)

And Carson was wondering … (14 comments)

Maple Valley Bank Owned Home Report December '08 - 12/11/08 12:51 PM
I put together my first bank owned property report for the Maple Valley market almost  one year ago. Back then I said:
" Currently (as of 12.26.07) there are 4 Bank Owned Properties for sale in the Maple Valley market, this is a higher number than we've seen in the past, but certainly better than many other areas of the Country and hopefully a trend we will not see increasing."
Here we are a year later and sadly the trend has increased, by 400%! Unfortantely, a high number of short sales and Lender's inability to move quickly on their decisions, have … (4 comments)

The Food Banks Need Our Help! - 12/10/08 02:40 PM

I spoke with Wes at the Maple Valley Food Bank yesterday after hearing a rumor that they had run out of food and temporarily closed their doors.
Evidently the rumor was wrong. They are not out of food, however they are running very low on food-especially milk. Wes told me it's not just Maple Vally Food Bank which is running low, all food banks are serving more people this year than ever before.
They are also very, very  low this year on toys for their annual Christmas Toy drive.
Each year the food bank organizes a special Christmas store at the food … (8 comments)

Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful - 12/07/08 09:49 PM
I've been told I have good bones and am in better than average condition. I'm definitely not what you would call "high maintenance".
I'm not too small, not too big and really don't have any weird quirks about me. I don't have any odors or "history" and am squeaky clean all the time.
So why aren't you willing to consider me?
Why won't you even look at me?
Is it really just about price?
I come from good stock and am not going to just give myself away.
Five years down the road, do you want to be able to say you found the best match … (54 comments)

Monday....Feels Like Friday - 12/01/08 10:24 AM
Monday mornings usually find me full of energy and ideas for the coming week....a new beginning. But after the long holiday weekend (and finally having the house back "to normal") I'm feeling more like the week needs to be ending rather than beginning all over again.
Maybe it's that this first day of the last month of a miserable year is looming like the last 1/4 mile of a marathon. Maybe it's the thought of hanging Christmas decorations (can't someone come up w/ a Christmas genie who can take care of that for me....for free?). Maybe it's that my son has … (10 comments)
