The term "Summer Vacation" has taken on a new meaning in our home. It's no longer the time when the kids are out of school for two and a half months. My youngest son graduated from Tahoma Senior High last week so I am unofficially done with school & my kids. I say unofficially because there's still college to deal with, but that's a level which doesn't involve school lunches and progess reports.
Yesterday was the last day of school for the rest of the district and today Maple Valley seems to be moving in slow-motion as new routines are formed.

I'm sitting here enjoying my first cup of coffee, Carson snoring at my feet, and looking out at the light snowfall we had overnight. What I'm NOT doing, is scanning the internet or going back and forth between TV channels to determine school delays or closures. In the past, it has happened where a delay became a closure and I hadn't heard. But this morning, I received a phone from the school district alterting me that school was delayed 2 hours.

How the School District Got it's Name:
In 1926 at the 3 story brick School (now serves as Tahoma Middle School), the Students took the first two letters of the surrounding communities of Taylor Creek, Hobart, and Maple Valley
Who's Got Mail?
The first post "office" was opened on May 22, 1882 in Arthur, which was about 1.5 miles North of where Maple Valley is today. Charles Russell was the postmaster. His "office" was in his home.
