Augusta GA Cotton ExchangeAugusta is continuing to grow as an anchor for the east central region. "Honestly, activity has remained steady - we continue to see not only manufacturing prospects taking a look but expansions of existing industries.

Automatic Data Processing is moving into a new 160,000-plus-square-foot facility in Augusta on Flowing Wells Road. The New Jersey-based company specializes in software customer service for clients around the world. ADP currently has 450 employees, and that number will grow to 1,000 within the next two years.

Teleperformance, a customer service facility working with WellCare, met and exceeded its goal of 250 new jobs, hiring 320 in Augusta. In February, Teleperformance announced an additional hiring of 100 new associates, bringing its total this year to 420, crediting an excellent local workforce with re-directed expansion plans from other locations to Augusta.                                    Augusta Business

Customer service facilities such as these are booming in Augusta; T-Mobile is planning to grow from 400 to 750 employees. The region is home to 18 additional customer service centers and consultants are eyeing the area for more. This concentration of information technology companies can be traced to the presence of Fort Gordon, the military's information technology and logistics headquarters.

Fort Gordon also has been good for Columbia County, says Karen.  Fort Gordon has a lot of new people coming in on a regular basis; they buy houses, new furniture, etc., which helps to stabilize our economy. We have three really strong cornerstones: Fort Gordon, our medical community and the Savannah River Site - even though it's in South Carolina, a large portion of their employees live here."

The region's medical community includes University Hospital, Medical College of Georgia, Doctors Hospital, Trinity Hospital of Augusta and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Doctors Hospital is going through a $50 million expansion, and MCG is building a new $31 million, 57,000-square-foot cancer center in downtown Augusta in 2010. University Hospital is building a new cardiac wing, and MCG Medical Associates is applying for a Certificate of Need to build a Satellite Ambulatory Care Facility in Columbia County.

Plant Vogtle Waynesboro GA"There is also the Plant Vogtle expansion," Chapin says, referring to the Southern Company's plans to build additional nuclear power facilities. "It's moving along with no major bumps in the road. It's a multiyear project that would create thousands of jobs and put lots of money into our economy. We're at 110,000 people, and we're ready, willing and waiting for more growth."

Columbia also is part of a regional initiative called the Clarks Hill Partnership, designed to promote economic development, of which recreational tourism is an increasingly significant component.

"It was the brainchild of former State Senator Jim Whitehead," according to Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Beda Johnson. "They recognized Clarks Hill Lake as a gem and wanted to make sure the communities in our region benefited from it."

Since forming in 2005, the partnership has brought the BASS Weekend Series National Championship, operated by American Bass Anglers, to Wildwood Park. And all regional partners benefit when Columbia County brings the ESPN/BASS Elite Series event to Clarks Hill Lake.

Well its official now and I know that the business community in both Burke County and Richmond County are excited.

Plant Vogtle, Southern Company has finally gotten the OK to build two new Nuclear Reactors in Waynesboro Georgia.

The new reactors will take an estimated 7 years to build that will be bringing approximately 7000 contractors to accomplish the job.

In April 2008, Georgia Power, Toshiba Corp (6502.T)/Shaw Group Inc's (SGR.N) Westinghouse Electric Co and Shaw's Stone & Webster subsidiary agreed to build two Westinghouse 1,100 MW AP1000 reactors at Vogtle.

The jobs created will be everything from painters, concrete workers, welders, and the list just goes on and on. That also means that we will need to house theses 7000 contractor/workers.

Many will come and park a RV and pay anywhere from $550.00 and up to live in a travel trailer or motor home. Some will be bringing there families and need rental property, and some will even buy a home for their families during there stay here in Waynesboro Ga.

For me one of the most exciting parts is that when completed Plant Vogtle will generate another 1900 jobs necessary to operate the two new Reactors.

Augusta gets a US GREEN Council. We hope!!   Rich Henderson the President of Jani-King of Augusta/Savannah is organizing the Augusta Chapter of the US Building Green Counsel.

I recently attended a luncheon to help launch the US Green Building Counsil in Augusta.

We discussed e charter, membership, organizing committees, recruiting and general interest. Volunteers were also asked to help with the steering committee to help organize membership and educational events.

In the beginning the US Green Building Counsil was only open to builders. But now it is open to everyone that works in or lives in a Building. That means YOU AND ME.

The council will offers incredible workshops and classes to help you live and work in a GREENER Environment.

I hope you will check out How You Can Make a Difference in your community. Just visit http://www.usgbcga.org/index.phpt

I am so excited I was recently elected to be an Ambassador for the local Augusta Chamber of Commerce. I have been so amazed over the last few weeks at all the great new as well as the many established Businesses in Augusta and Evans Georgia.

 Business in Augusta

While Augusta has certainly felt the ripples of our country's struggle to tread turbulent economic waters, Georgia's second largest city has held up quite well compared to others across the nation. National rankings that give our city top honors in housing markets, workforce and business environments are a testament to Augusta's perseverance, growth and attractive lifestyle.

Augusta's housing is showing no effects of the nationwide downturn in house prices, according to an article by Marilyn Lewis of MSN Money. In a nationwide article released in December of 2008 by MSN, Augusta ranks #2 out of 292 metropolitan areas in the United States with the best housing appreciation over the past year. Housing values in the Augusta metro area have increased by 5.5% since 2007.

CNN/Money Magazine has ranked Columbia County the 32nd best place to live in the United States and second best place to call home in the southeast. And as recently as March 2007, BizJournal.com rated Augusta number one in their listing of the 10 most affordable markets to own a home. Contributing to the city's steady growth, stable economy and desirable quality of life are Augusta's strong base of manufacturers, large employers, world-class medical community and strategic military base.

At the core of technology-based employers in the CSRA is the Savannah River Site (SRS). This U.S. Department of Energy facility develops and uses technologies to improve the environment and treat nuclear and hazardous waste left over from the Cold War. With a workforce of nearly 11,000 people and an annual budget of $2 billion, SRS is adjacent to the Center for Hydrogen Research, the only facility of its kind in the world.

We also mentioned our healthcare community as playing a key part in Augusta's flourishing economic core. With several hospitals and the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta not only offers an abundance of quality healthcare options for its residents, but it also encourages the development of emerging research and health-related sciences. In particular, MCG's Interdisciplinary Research Building is opening the door to Augusta's future as a biotechnology corridor. Here laboratories and offices are breeding grounds for life sciences entrepreneurs and research. The Georgia Medical Center Authority is also dedicated to making Augusta a hub for research and development. The group is brainstorming the Augusta BioBusiness Corridor, an incubator for new biotechnologies with a focus on medical devices and software.

Since 1941, our local airport has played a significant role in the economic development of this community. Two major airlines (U.S. Airways Express and Delta Connection) provide nonstop service to two hub cities, Atlanta and Charlotte, and waiting areas have free Internet connections and gourmet coffee and food bars. Augusta Regional Airport tenants and visitors contribute approximately $300 million in economic activity to the area each year. With the construction of a new airline terminal, the airport, conveniently located seven miles from downtown, continues to propel the community forward, embracing the vision of Augusta and the CSRA.

Augusta-Richmond County also boasts an impressive list of world-renowned, advanced manufacturing companies including Proctor and Gamble, Nutra-Sweet, John Deere, E-Z-Go Textron, Club Car and Kellogg. We are also the new home to companies such as T-Mobile and Automatic Data Processing, which are currently making investments of nearly $100 million in new facility operations and bringing 1,000 new jobs to the area. And just across the river in Graniteville, S.C., Bridgestone/Firestone has the world's most technologically-advanced tire factory. Only nine miles from Augusta, the facility has won numerous awards since its opening.

Working in and living so close to the beautiful and evergrowing Augusta Georgia is absoluty wonderful!
