How to Find Out What Your Neighbors Paid for Their Crofton Homes - 08/30/09 05:36 PM
Want to know what your neighbors paid for their Crofton home? You don't have to dig through their trash bags at the curb and you don't have to watch for the information to be published in a local newspaper. And no, I'm not going to suggest you just ask. It's online at the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation website.
Just click on the image or the link above it, and scroll within the little box (red arrow) to find Anne Arundel County; then you'll probably want to search by Street Name or Property Sales (highlighted in green). You'll (12 comments)
Tree-lined Streets Welcome you to Crofton Area Neighborhoods - 08/28/09 08:33 AM
Distinctive brick gates mark the main entrance into "Old" Crofton on Route 3 in Anne Arundel County, but what's beyond those gates? Well, here's your answer - Crawford Boulevard, the block-long tree-lined street that welcomes you into our community.
"OLD" CROFTON
"Old Crofton" is not the only local community with tree-lined streets, however. Take a look at these other neighborhoods in the Greater Crofton Area:
NANCARLESAn upscale community in Gambrills on Rt. 450
HALLMARK WOODSA Gambrills community of detached homes on acre-plus lots
THE RIDGESA Crownsville community of custom-built homes

Behind the Scenes - After the Listing Appointment - 08/27/09 11:51 PM
De-bunking the myth that "My agent didn't do a damn thing to get my house sold... she just got lucky and now I have to pay her all that money for nothing!" Since "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity," let's take a peek at Act III of Behind the Scenes to find out what makes your agent (and you) so "lucky."

There are some homeowners in Habitat who are younger than their homes - but that doesn't seem to bother them. That's because Habitat is ideal for first-time buyers as well as empty nesters, retirees and anyone looking for a rock-bottom price and a Crofton address. That's been the market for Habitat since Day One, when they were first built. Habitat is located off Reidel Road in Crofton, easily accessible from Fort Meade and BWI on the north and from the Crofton Triangle on the south. Commuting (3 comments)
Double the Information - or Too Much? - 08/23/09 10:58 AM
Activerain recently provided us with an option to have an automatic signature or footer added to the bottom of our blog posts, and I couldn't have been happier to see it. In case you missed the announcement by Jeremy Blanton, here it is:
ActiveRain Announces Automatic Signatures on Your Blog I assumed this new standard signature/footer would appear on all blog posts going forward - not on all blog posts ever written. I was wrong. There are certain advantages to this... For example, if you change companies your revised signature/footer will automatically be updated so you don't have to (16 comments)

Crofton Maryland Real Estate Update - July 2009 - 08/19/09 08:58 AM
Real estate statistics for Crofton in July 2009 were much improved over last month and, in some categories, over the same month last year. Average days on market for sold properties declined over 45%, from 122 in 2008 to 66 July this year - which was nearly the same as the difference between last month and this. The number of units sold in July 2009 (33) is stable, compared to the same month last year (34). Median and average sold prices are down less than 5% from last year. Average selling price was almost 95%, compared to 92% for July 2008. I wouldn’t (0 comments)

Charing Cross is a community of 122 spacious Crofton townhomes built from 1979 through the mid-80's in two phases by different builders. The community is located on the north side of Rt. 424, just east of Rt. 3. It is not inside the "Crofton Triangle" or the special taxing district, but it is located within the Crofton zipcode (21114) and residents do attend Crofton public schools.
The first section, as you drive into the community from Rt. 424 (left), was a pet project (6 comments)
Have You Tried a Caramel Cooler from Caribou Coffee? - 08/12/09 10:10 PM
Caramel syrup, cooler mix, ice, whipped cream and caramel drizzle... it all adds up to a Caramel Cooler at Caribou Coffee. We declined dessert earlier tonight at Four Seasons Grille after a wonderful dinner, but then walked next door for a cup of coffee. My husband instead succumbed to the temptation presented by a giant poster picturing summer coolers, and now I do believe he's hooked!
Caribou Coffee is located at The Village of Waugh Chapel in Gambrills, about 3 minutes North of Crofton and perhaps 10 minutes (9 comments)
A Stupid Criminal Story - 08/11/09 10:36 AM
Not everyone is meant to be a REALTOR or a rocket scientist, and some people probably shouldn't try to be criminals, either.
You can read today's Anne Arundel County Police Department press release on Facebook for this story in its entirety, but here's the Reader's Digest (i.e. short) version: Not long after a homeowner returned to discover a break-in had occurred at her home, she drove past a nearby yard sale where she spotted items that were missing from her home and shed. She called police, a warrant was obtained, and all of her missing items (valued at more (19 comments)
Sure, there are plenty of places to get crabs and other seafood in the area... this is Maryland, after all, and we're only a half hour from the Chesapeake Bay. But we don't have time to go crabbing, and there's no place cl oser to home than Shoreline Seafood in Gambrills for buying our steamed crabs. It's located just north of Crofton in the median strip of Route 3, near Johns Hopkins Rd. before you get to The Village at (5 comments)
Let's face it... Crofton is an "established neighborhood" - code for "older" (and better). Most of us have a list of projects on our wish-list, ranging from an exterior paint job to building a new deck, from kitchen and bath updating to finishing (or re-finishing) the basement. In my household, we have always been do-it-yourselfers - My husband Larry has been known to build a screened-in porch, fireplace, attic bedroom, and more. Frankly, one of (8 comments)
Crofton Commons Townhomes in Crofton MD - 08/06/09 07:57 AM
CROFTON COMMONS in Crofton MD is ideally located for anyone working on post at Fort Meade or anywhere in the D.C.-Baltimore area... and it's only about a half hour to either the D.C. or Baltimore beltways.
CROFTON COMMONS is a community of about 90 homes built in the '70's. Like other townhomes in the area at the time, they originally sold around $60,000. All of the homes have a basement, as far as I know, and most are 3 bedroom homes with about 1400 sq. ft. There are also a number of 4-bedroom end units with nearly 1650 square (2 comments)
Rita's Ice in Crofton - What's All the Fuss About? - 08/04/09 07:33 AM
RITA'S ICE in Crofton, Maryland - It must be good, because there's always a line outside, day or night, whenever they're open. What's All the Fuss About? That's a question I asked myself for many months as I drove past their location on Defense Highway, about 50' east of my office at Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. There is such a huge crowd of people outside and so many cars driving in and out of there whenever they're open, that you might think RITA'S ICE is giving away something for free. That many people... they must know something I (10 comments)
A HEALTHY STEP is located in The Village of Waugh Chapel at 1300 Main Chapel Way in Gambrills - just 5 minutes from Crofton, MD. I pictured "grandma" shoes or "nun" shoes, for some reason, when a store called "A HEALTHY STEP" opened near retirement condos in the Village at Waugh Chapel. I had absolutely zero desire to visit that store. My mistake! Now I have to laugh at that misconception. Their shoes may be "fine-quality men's (10 comments)
