What's Your First-Appointment Protocol? - 11/29/10 11:30 AM
It was a chilly but sunny Sunday, in the D.C. area, and I spent yesterday afternoon apartment-shopping with my daughter in nearby Northern Virginia.
Before anyone showed her their model apartment or handed her their printed materials, before they even smiled and welcomed us, they pointed us to chairs and gave my daughter the third degree from behind their desk.  (When they realized I wasn't a prospect, I became a minor annoyance like a piece of lint on their jacket.)

Credit Tips For My Borrowers (Stuff You NEED to Know) - 11/24/10 08:54 AM
It's a small world, after all.  These credit tips by my favorite Arizona lender are just as important for my Crofton home buyers as they are for Mike's Tucson home buyers.
His advice is "right on" and I have to echo his sentiment... please call me BEFORE you do anything. (Emphasis added to "before").  Wouldn't it be a shame if you paid off something and re-started the clock on a negative credit factor appearing on your credit report?

Five Easy Steps for Disabling Geo-tags on Your iPhone - 11/23/10 12:07 AM
I just read a post by Todd Clark about the potential for one's iPhone to be used by a criminal to target you, based on photos taken with your phone.  (Did you know your iPhone can help get you robbed? My past clients didn’t until now!)  He suggested turning off the geo-tags which make this possible, but didn't say how to do that.  Heck, I never even heard of geo-tags til five minutes ago, and now I'm supposed to turn them off. My favorite "go-to" place for how to do anything is eHow.com and, of course, they had five easy steps: … (9 comments)

Breakfast with Santa to Benefit Crofton Regional Community Center - 11/22/10 12:35 AM

Who wouldn't love an excuse to go out to breakfast on a Saturday morning?  And what better excuse could you possibly find than taking the kids or grandkids to breakfast with Santa.  Not to mention, we're talking breakfast at Bob Evans!
I'm already having visions of fluffy pancakes, served with eggs and bacon or sausage...  (as you can probably tell, I don't need an excuse to visit Bob Evans for breakfast because I don't even need a menu).
There's an "official" flyer (this isn't it) that you must turn in with your check to guarantee that 15% of the proceeds … (4 comments)

Anne Arundel County MD Real Estate Market Update
The leaves may be falling in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, but home prices aren't.  That's what real estate statistics published by MRIS for October 2010 are telling me.

Restaurants and Retailers Honor Veterans This Week - 11/07/10 04:16 PM

There aren't many holidays that have more meaning than Veteran's Day.  Most of us know and love a veteran, and we're usually “wowed” to hear his or her stories of service.  I guess that must be true of many business owners, too, because so many of them are reaching out to honor veterans on November 11 this year.
Here are some special events you may want to share with veterans in your life who may not have heard about them:
Fee Free Day at National ParksTo honor America's service men and women, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that … (9 comments)

Statistics Don't Have Room for Nuances - True or False? - 11/01/10 08:57 AM
Another real estate agent in Crofton recently downplayed the use of statistics in evaluating the market, saying in an online newsletter that "statistics don't always have room for nuances" such as the effect of the tax credit on units sold and sold prices.  True, BUT...
My very first Activerain post was a market study based on statistics published by MRIS, our regional mls.  Within a week, I listed a Crofton home for sale as a direct result of this first post, and a second listing followed a few weeks later.  Needless to say, I've been a believer in market studies ever … (40 comments)
