Bowie MD Real Estate Trends - January 2012 - 02/28/12 03:48 AM
“What zipcode?” is a question I must ask whenever someone asks about the real estate market in Bowie, Maryland. That’s because Bowie covers such a large area that real estate statistics can differ widely from one zipcode to the next. In January, for example, the median home prices were up in 20720 from the previous year and down in 20715, 20716 and 20721. The number of days on market – how long a property was on the market between the listing date and contract date – was up in 20715 and 20721 but down in 20716 and 20720, compared to January 2011. Another way of

It's National Pancake Day Today, February 28, 2012 - 02/28/12 02:29 AM
Crofton residents don't have to go far today to find an IHOP where they can enjoy a free short stack of Buttermilk pancakes in exchange for a donation to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities. Since National Pancake Day begain in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly eight million dollars. Their goal for 2012 is 2.7 million dollars. Why not treat yourself to a great breakfast this morning, while supporting a great cause?!? If you haven't been to IHOP lately, you may not know there's one located in Bowie at Freestate Plaza on Rt. 450 (15470 Annapolis Rd.). Hop

Mortgage Interest Deduction at Risk in Maryland - 02/24/12 04:23 AM
Maryland homeowners, you're at risk of losing your deduction for mortgage interest. There's a bill before the Maryland General Assembly to eliminate the mortgage interest deduction for all Marylanders who itemize on their tax returns and make more than $100,0000. If it passes, Maryland will become one of the first states in our nation to eliminate the mortgage interest deduction and help lead the way toward its elimination from our federal taxes. Anticipating widespread opposition to this measure, Governor O'Malley included this proposal in the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (BRFA), instead of introducing it as a separate bill.

Home Staging is More than Pictures and Pillows! - 02/19/12 08:52 PM
Crofton home sellers, take note. This post is a terrific explanation of what a professional home stager does... and why she does it. As you'll soon see, home staging is much "More than Pictures and Pillows!" Via Kristine Ginsberg Morris County, NJ Stager (Morris County, NJ: Elite Staging and Redesign, LLC): Home Staging is More than Pictures and Pillows! During my career as a Morris County, NJ Home Stager I repeatedly find there are so many misconceptions about home staging. We are not decorators focusing on your personal tastes and décor. Professional home staging focuses on highlighting your house’s architectural features

Crofton Contracts Outnumber Listings in January 2012 - 02/13/12 03:37 PM
Crofton weather was amazing in January, as residents enjoyed warmer than usual temperatures and an early hint of Spring ahead. Even the daffodil bulbs, birds, and bunny rabbits were fooled by Mother Nature! It felt a bit like Spring in the real estate market, too, as 24 homes went under contract in the 21114 zipcode during January. Since this is down from 30 in January 2011, why would I consider this good news? The reason is simple: I'm looking at this number in context with the 17 new listings. When we see a higher ratio of new contracts to new

How to Prepare for Buying a Home - 02/12/12 08:54 PM
REAL ESTATE Q&A Q: Is there anything I have to do to prepare for buying a Crofton home? A. The short answer is “no.” The better answer is “yes!” Lots of home buyers walk into a real estate office or model home with no preparation at all, and eventually they succeed in finding and buying a house. The process is rarely without disappointments, delays and frustrations, however, which might have been avoided with a little preparation. If you want a more pleasant home-buying experience, here are some suggestions to help you prepare for becoming a home buyer: 1. Know

The 15th annual Great Backyard Bird Count will take place next week, from February 17–20, when bird watchers across the United States and Canada will tally millions of birds in the annual count coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon, and Canadian partner Bird Studies Canada. Don't worry... no one expects you to sit in front of your window for four days to count birds. Here's how you can participate: 1. Count birds for 15 minutes, in as many places and on as many days (during the count period) as you like and submit a separate checklist for
