activerain: Activerain Summertime Meetup in MARYLAND - 07/17/13 09:18 PM
There's nothing quite like an Activerain Meetup in summertime or any time. YOU'RE INVITED!
My first opportunity to meet other Activerainers in person occurred about five years ago, when Brian Block invited a handful of people from DC, Maryland and Virginia to gather for lunch in Northern Virginia. I didn't know any of the other people in attendance, and hadn't ever met Brian in person, but some of us quickly became great friends - in person and online - and now we always look forward to seeing each other again.  Since then, the experience has been repeated in many corners of … (22 comments)

activerain: Do you learn something new every time you visit Activerain? I do. - 01/13/12 04:47 AM
Rarely do I visit Activerain that I don't learn something new.  Earlier this month, for example, I learned a new vocabulary word:  weltanschauung.  Boy, that would be a stumper in a spelling bee, wouldn't it?  I'm not even going to try to pronounce it.

When I looked it up, here's what I found in Mirriam Websiter's online dictionary:
Weltanschauung is a noun, often capitalized, defined as “a comprehensive conception or apprehension of the world especially from a specific standpoint.”  The origin of this word is German – from Welt (world) and Anschauung (view).  There are two ways to pluralize the … (4 comments)

activerain: Activerain - An Idea Book for the Real Estate Profession - 01/06/12 12:20 AM
Archiving our Memories is a special project of National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC), this year.  According to the organization's website, this project celebrates the many projects, events and activities of 6200+ local clubs across the nation that are affiliated with National Garden Clubs, Inc.  NGC has created a Flickr site to be used as an Idea Book, and they've asked local clubs to share their garden club pictures with other garden clubbers across the country and throughout the world.
It occurred to me that "archiving our memories" is what we do here on Activerain through our blog posts and photos.  … (4 comments)

activerain: You're an Activerain Celebrity... So What? - 08/09/10 01:37 PM
Hundreds of Activerain members put on our "expert" hat every day, whether we're posting a blog about our communities or our own real estate-related businesses.
We intend for our blogs to inform consumers, connect us with potential clients, and differentiate ourselves from the competition.   I don't know anyone who started blogging with the goal of becoming an Activerain Celebrity.  Do you?
Yet, in many cases, this is exactly what happens when we wear our "expert" hat.  Even bloggers who never had a featured post, haven't yet earned a gazillion Activerain points, and don't get many comments are probably perceived by their … (32 comments)

activerain: Stunning White House Ornaments Discovered Through ActiveRain - 12/19/08 12:00 AM
Earlier this week, you may have seen my short little post You Snooze, You Lose - No More 2008 White House Ornaments available from the White House Historic Association.
In true ActiveRain fashion, members stepped up to the plate to help me out.  There were not many comments, but three out of the first six offered suggestions for obtaining them and two people emailed me with specific contact information. What are the odds that such a random post would be read by people familiar with these ornaments, people who may have a source for them?  Talk about quality comments!
But … (19 comments)

activerain: Surviving ActiveRain Technical Difficulties - 04/06/08 09:00 AM

NO POUTING OR WHINING PERMITTED!
Technical difficulties are inevitable with the rapidly compounding membership growth of ActiveRain.   No amount of pouting or whining from us will make any difference, and I'm sure we're no more frustrated than the folks at ActiveRain are.  I suspect they're doing everything in their power to solve the problem(s).
(EDIT:  NO, I am not on their payroll!  LOL)

So what's an ActiveRain Addict supposed to do when "technical difficulties" occur?

1.  Call your mother (or dad or grandparent or long lost brother).  How long has it been since you last did that?  Please don't mention the only reason you're calling is technical difficulties.  Tell Mom you miss her.  … (99 comments)

activerain: Another Accolade for ActiveRain - Congratulations! - 01/16/08 08:30 AM
Perhaps someone else has already mentioned this, but I haven't read it on ActiveRain.  Actually, I got an email this week titled "Announcing: The Real Estate Trendsetters for 2007"
There, right alongside biggies like RE/MAX and Zillow, is our own ActiveRain!  Here are the names and descriptions of the 2008 Top 10 Trendsetters, according to report author Stefan Swanepoel:
10.   Bank of America - The largest retail banking operation in the country stepped up by initially lending $2 billion to save ill-fated and cash-starved Countrywide before ultimately purchasing the company.
9.   EXIT Realty - Based on a system that pays out residuals, EXIT's innovation in … (32 comments)

activerain: Is ActiveRain Your Significant Other? - 12/17/07 03:19 AM
As I sit across the room from my husband, bonding with my computer keyboard for yet another blog post, my husband seems satisfied to enjoy my company while he reads the paper.  Every now and then, he'll read a little blurb to me (Redskins won last night) and I try hard not to show annoyance that he's interrupting my ActiveRain concentration.  Part of me feels a little guilty, though.
Who is my significant other, anyway?  My husband or ActiveRain?!?!
Since this is the season for sitting down to write a business plan and make New Year's resolutions, we might want to do a … (93 comments)

activerain: Because of Active Rain, I have answers to question I didn't even know I had. - 09/12/07 06:13 AM

Because of ActiveRain, I know answers to questions I didn't even know I had.  (What does SEO mean?  Blog, what's that? What's a widget, why do I want one, how to I get one?  How do I make a nice graph like Brian does?  Where can I find free graphics that aren't copyright?  What's a Real Estate Tomato, RSS feed, RES?)
Because of ActiveRain, I get up earlier in the morning.  (To read, comment, acknowledge, reciprocate...)
Because of ActiveRain, I feel like SUPER-AGENT.  (http://activerain.com/blogsview/199560/Because-of-ActiveRain-I)
Because of ActiveRain, I finally have a Florida partner for a "Who Wants to Move to Florida" promotion this winter.  (Thank … (23 comments)

activerain: How do you organize YOUR ActiveRain? - 08/20/07 02:11 AM
Okay, I've been doing this ActiveRain thing for several months, now, and I've developed some routines.  Let's share, because I could probably learn from YOUR ideas, and somebody might like mine.  What do you think?  Wanna play?  I'll start with Associates and My Home:

Associates - I organized my Associates into Realtors, Lenders, Stagers, Title Companies, Home Inspectors, Vendors, Appraisers and Web Design/SEO, instead of letting them just fall into the default Associates.  Now, when I add a new Associate, I just click on the appropriate box and add a comment - often as simple as "Georgia referrals" or maybe something like "REO expert".
If you … (49 comments)
