Earlier tonight, Larry and I picked up two of the grandkids in Bowie to attend the Christmas Tree Lighting in Crofton. Thirty-five years ago, we were taking their dad and his siblings to this annual event, but we can't find a single photo taken then.
Fortunately, digital photography makes it much easier to record these new memories and we took a lot of photos tonight.
Many thanks to the Crofton Civic Association, the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department, Crofton Country Club and everyone who worked so hard to make this a special evening for the community.

You better watch out, you better not cry Better not pout, I'm telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town...
Look for Santa to arrive at Crofton Country Club tonight, riding atop a firetruck. After he lights the Christmas Tree, everyone is invited into the clubhouse for a community Christmas party. There will be refreshments, music and a chance for kids to sit on Santa's lap to tell him personally what they want for Christmas.
He's making a list and checking it twice; Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice Santa Claus is coming to town

How would you like to drive by a golf course on your way home every day? If you live in Old Crofton, that's a likely occurrence. In fact, I drive past the Par 3 twelfth hole of Crofton Country Club every day on my way home. It's literally a block from my house.
Other lucky Crofton residents live in one of the homes that line the fairways of this golf course or nearby Walden Golf Club.
Even if you don't play golf, you gotta admit it's nice to have the open space to enjoy visually, or more actively by walking … (10 comments)

'Twas December 1, and all through the community, everyone was stirring to get ready for Christmas...
Little elves (members of the Crofton Village Garden Club) scurried around the community, decorating light poles, the Front Gate, schools and the Crofton Library with holiday wreathes.

The Garden Club finished in plenty of time for evening festivities in front of Crofton Country Club at 6:30, where a record-breaking crowd gathered for a sing-along, the Christmas Tree lighting and Santa's arrival on the top of a fire truck.

The Ladies of the Evening Golf League is partnering with Crofton Country Club on July 16 for a fun-filled golf outing and dinner to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Check-in for the 9-hole scramble begins at 3, with refreshments and an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets prior to the shot-gun start at 4:30 p.m. The entry fee is $60 per person or $225 per foursome - No need to have a foursome to sign up, however, because event organizers will be happy to pair you with other golfers.

My dad always said that a golf course is the best place to raise children, and I have to echo his sentiment. A child who runs home from school to get his golf clubs and practice is not hanging out in an alley experimenting with drugs.
