golf: Live Where You Golf in Anne Arundel County, Maryland - 07/25/12 07:00 AM
Golfers, I know you want to live near a golf course when you relocate to the D.C.-Baltimore area! We certainly did, when we moved to Maryland, and we chose to live blocks from the Crofton Country Club golf course. We watched our children grew up on the golf course, compete as juniors across the country, play college golf, and enjoy the sport as adults. Now, we take two of our grandchildren to the club weekly for their first formal exposure to the game, at ages 8 and 10. If this lifestyle appeals to you, there are several golf courses in Anne Arundel (4 comments)

Only a golfer will appreciate this video of my son's "hot streak" on the beach-side putting green during his recent vacation in Florida.
This is the son who nagged me to start blogging 'til I finally did it. Little did he know that he would create this blogging monster. LOL. (5 comments)
How would you like to drive by a golf course on your way home every day? If you live in Old Crofton, that's a likely occurrence. In fact, I drive past the Par 3 twelfth hole of Crofton Country Club every day on my way home. It's literally a block from my house. Other lucky Crofton residents live in one of the homes that line the fairways of this golf course or nearby Walden Golf Club. Even if you don't play golf, you gotta admit it's nice to have the open space to enjoy visually, or more actively by walking (10 comments)

If you're a golfer, chances are good that living near a golf course is a priority for you. I know because that describes my family! There's no shortage of golf courses in the D.C. - Baltimore area, that's for sure! In Anne Arundel County alone there are thirteen, including three on military installations (Fort Meade and the U.S. Naval Academy). But which are located in a "golf course community" where you and your family could walk or (19 comments)
Whether you're relocating to a new area, going on a vacation trip, or just trying out a new course in your local community - this is something you'll want to check out! Local entrepreneurs in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, recently launched Golf Flyover to provide a virtual tour of golf courses all over the country. While their goal is to offer flyovers for every course in America on their website, they launched with about 5,000 of the estimated 18,000 courses. Eventually, they hope to go worldwide. Aerial views of golf courses have been available for some time, using Google Earth, yet it wasn't possible to know which hole was (18 comments)
First a little golf trivia... As a golfer, I'm sure you're familiar with the customary RED TEES for women, WHITE TEES for men, and BLUE TEES for Championship play. This system was actually the brainchild of Frank Emmet, Director of the District of Columbia Golf Association's junior activities in the 1920's and a member of the USGA Junior Championship Committee. But Frank Emmet's legacy reached beyond this to many generations of golfers in this area with his mantra On the links, (8 comments)

My dad always said that a golf course is the best place to raise children, and I have to echo his sentiment. A child who runs home from school to get his golf clubs and practice is not hanging out in an alley experimenting with drugs. An adolescent or teen who plays 18 or 36 holes of golf a day, virtually from dawn 'til dark, is too tired to stay out late at night (5 comments)
