The construction of the new Waterfront Station in Southwest DC is continuing. The developer recently secured $250 million for construction financing
The first two new buildings are now above grade and noticeable as one passes by. The new Waterfront Station will reconnect 4th Street SW which was closed when the Waterside Mall was built decades ago. The path of the new 4th Street SW is visible in the photo below. 4th Street will curve around the existing Metrorail station.

The representative said no decision has been made at this time. St. Augustine's Episcopal Church's property abuts the land that is part of the District's redevelopment of the Southwest Waterfront being led by PN Hoffman-Struever Brothers.

sw dc: DC Signs Land Disposition Agreement for Southwest Waterfront - 10/03/08 09:17 AM
Washington, D.C., signed a land disposition agreement Tuesday with Hoffman-Struever Waterfront LLC, allowing D.C. to transfer several parcels along the Southwest waterfront to the development team.
D.C.-based PN Hoffman Inc. and Baltimore-based Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse plan to convert the 26-acre waterfront into a $1.5 billion mixed-use mecca, which will include more than 2 million square feet of public parks, plazas and open green space.

sw dc: $198 Million Approved by DC Council for Southwest Waterfront - 07/15/08 07:42 AM
The DC Council approved $198 million to fund the infrastructure needed for the$1.5 billion Waterfront renovation project. PN Hoffman and Struever Brothers are the master developers for the project which could create 770 housing units, 700,000 square feet of offices, three hotels, 280,000 square feet of retail and 150,000 square feet of cultural attractions, as well as parks and four new piers.
The final reading of the bill is scheduled for July 15, 2008.

ANC 6D voted to oppose the Corcoran Gallery of Art's request to the DC Zoning Commission to delay completion of its Randall Project until 2015. The project was originally scheduled for completion in 2011. Read about it in The Southwester.

Opening ceremonies for the 2007 AIDS Walk Washington will be on 10/6/2007 at Freedom Plaza beginning at 9am. The AIDS Walk route leaving Freedom Plaza via Pennyslvania Avenue. It turns onto 4th Street and crosses into Southwest DC, loops around on D Street SW, and back up 4th Street to Pennyslvania Avenue to Freedom Plaza.
