Lower Matecumbe, (or Lower Mat as the Conch Locals call it) is probably my favorite Key throughout all of our 127-mile archipelago. It's where I learned to snorkel when I was age 5, Oceanside at marker 77 near Indian Key, and where, as a young boy I delighted seeing Conch and Lobster, Sergeant Majors, Grouper, Snapper, Turtles and Grunt all swimming in the pristine currents just yards from shore. There's always been something profoundly nostalgic about arriving to a destination via Seaplane.
