American flagToday is a day to remember....

Remembering what we enjoy because of the sacrifice of others....

I stop to reflect thinking of those I know who personally served and those I don't.  My husband's father landed on Omaha Beach after the first initial waves.  For years, he really didn't talk much about it..there was always an untold pain behind his eyes like so many of our soldiers who survived.... But I have been told that late in life he went back with some of his grandchildren and began to tell of the ultimate sacrifice made by many...many of his friends.  And I had the honor to watch his military service when he passed away recently...there was such a beautiful and fitting dignity that I will always remember.

We enjoy so much in this great land thanks to the men and women who serve.  And we wish everyone one of them safety.  And for those who have fallen we offer our meager thanks...

Veterans will be honored today at Washington State University in Pullman Washington at the Compton Union Building Auditorium between  9:30 to 11:15 AM. There will be refreshment to start off the ceremony with the ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM.  At 10:45 there will be a procession to the WSU Veterans Memorial with the laying of the wreath and honor guard to follow.

Rebecca Schwartz is one of our local volunteers who works tirelessly in supporting our military and as usual works behinds the scenes giving back as her personal way to say thanks.  When our local national guardsmen were called into service, she organized several support the troups gatherings in our community whereby we gathered together to write cards and send care packages to our soldiers throughout the year.  When our troops returned she was presented a flag in thanks to her supporting them.

Here is a picture they sent to us in thanks...and it strikes me as a wonderful cycle...we reach out in thanks as we should...and they reach back and say thank you for support...do please reach out and say thanks today....somehow...someway...just get it done...they did...

Now is even a better time to buy a home in Washington State!  First Time home buyers now have until April 30, 2009 to have a signed around purchase and sale agreement for their first home and be eligible for up to an 8,000 dollar tax credit.

The buyer also has a 60 day grace period to complete their financing.  So that  means you could be in your first home anywhere between the first snowfall in Pullman to our wonderful 4th of July celebration in Sunnyside Park!

And now more first time home buyers qualify!  The annual income qualifications have also risen to 75,000 to 125,000 for singles and 150,000 to 225,000 for married couples! That is great news for first time home buyers!

Pullman WA HomeAnd don't feel left out if you currently own a home.  Now with the expanded tax credit it current home owners may also qualify for a tax credit up to 6,500!    They too must purchase by April 30, 2010.  And to qualify they must of lived in their current home for 5 consecutive years over the 8 previous years to qualify. The home must be $800,000 or less.... and be their primary residence between November 7, 2009 and April 30, 2010.  Income limits are the same as for the first time home buyers...75,000 to 125,000 for singles and 150,000 to 225,000 for married couples!

Rates are still great.  I was speaking with a loan officer today and it is still possible for home buyers to get into a home for as little as 3 1/2 percent down!  What a great time to buy that  Washington home whether you are a first time home buyer or current home owner thinking about a new home.

Call me and let's see what we can do to get you into that your own piece of the American Dream in Pullman Washington that you can call "Home Sweet Home."

Tour

I live in a small town.  We can get across town in about 5 minutes.  And even when we get inundated with out of town visitors for an out of town event such as a WSU game it is still about 10 minutes.  Living in a small town has it's benefits.

One of those benefits is Realtor Tour.  Because we can readily access the properties in our area, our office, like many of the offices here go out on tour faithfully.  The benefits are immense.

  • We see the properties before we show always keeping our eye for that perfect house for our client.
  • We have a better feel for the pricing on our own listings either currently on the market or coming on the market.
  • We let our seller's in our area know that we as an association are working hard to sell their property.  I think this is very important....we need to let the seller's know first hand that we are out there working to sell their home!
  • We get the opportunity to meet as an office and caravan.  Our office is like a family and it gives us an opportunity to see each other and discuss current trends.  We sure do have a great time on Tour!
  • We also get to see other agents in different offices too....and that is great!  Sometimes it is an old acquaintance that has moved on and a chance to catch up.  Sometimes it is an agent that we may of  had a deal with in the past.  It gives us a chance  to catch up about how they and their family may be.

Last week our office at Beasley put on a Breakfast tour.  It was a blast...each of us put something different out so that you had a pretty full tummy by the time tour was over.   We also put in a sign in sheet for a drawing.

This week another Realtor from a different office put out lunch.  It was great!  I think the golden rule applies here...we treat both our clients, the seller's of other Realtor's clients and each other as Realtors as we would want to be treated ourselves...

Leaves

Today has got to be THE CLASSIC FALL DAY day in Pullman Washington.  The sky is blue and the temperature today was close to 60 degrees.  There was just a light breeze providing just a bit of movement to the leaves still left on the trees.  It was gorgeous!

I found myself for a few wonderful hours in the heart of WSU.  Pullman is host to Washington State University.  I watched students and professors heading to and from their classes with book bags and satchels in tow.  Everyone really seemed to be enjoying this beautiful day.

Washington State University provides great opportunities and things to do in Pullman.
Thanks to the university there is always something going on!

I am looking forward to next weekend when WSU will host their 2009 Dad's Weekend.  It is a blast!  All those Cougs have Dad come
Washington State Universityin for a weekend packed with events from beginning to end.  Of course our town explodes when Dad's pour into town to see their Coug sons and daughters for a great weekend! And fun is had by all!

It all starts off on November 14, 2009 at 9:00AM with a welcome for Dad's at the WSU Visitor center where there will be treats and coffee from the Dining Services.  Also, you have the opportunity to sample our famous Cougar Cheese of the week! YUMMY!!!!

Feel like taking in an exhibit!  This should be fun...there will be "Cougs in the Conner Museum" with "Prowl Our Big Cats" on the 14th from 9:00Am to 12:00 PM

And what would a Dad's weekend be without football?!!! Saturday (time to be determined) we will host UCLA.  Football and Dads....a match made in heaven!

And of course, Jeff Dunham will do one of his stand up routines that will have everyone rolling the isles with this collection of 3 foot puppets!!!  I sure  Beasley Performing Arts Colesium will explode with laughter from 8:30 to 10:00.

PS...If you are Dad that sports our rival purple and gold colors...I would suggest you leave your Husky gear at home!!!  Go COUGS!!!!

Tonight marks the end of Daylight Savings time. So before you go to bed turn your clocks back one hour. I personally love gaining the extra hour of sleep.

As we turn back our clocks it is great reminder that we also need to tuck our homes in for the upcoming winter. The winters in Pullman Washington, although most magical, are best enjoyed when our homes are functioning properly. In fact, just the other day we had our first few snowflakes falling. So, here are just a few all important things you need to check off of your list before winter sets in.

  • The leaves clinging to the trees, putting on their final show of glory, before fluttering to the ground will, of course, need to be raked. But don't forget to make sure you clean your gutters. Gutters that don't drain properly are a main source of water penetration in basements and ice dams in the frozen winter months.

  • Don't forget to remove all outside hoses and protect outside faucets. And if you have sprinkler system, make sure it has been blown out.

  • fireplace pullman waRun all gas-powered lawn equipment until the fuel is gone. That way you won't run into problems with your equipment come spring.

  • Don't forget to replace furnace filters and have your furnace checked.

  • Have your chimney professionally swept and checked so you can enjoy long cozy nights in front of the fireplace worry free.

  • Please, replace all smoke detector batteries. Both in the Spring and Fall with the time change is a great time to take care of this all important task!

Pullman Washington Market Report - Courtesy of Lori Cofer, REALTOR ~ "Your Pullman Real Estate Connection"

Pullman Washington in Whitman county sits on the far eastern border of Washington State and is home to Washington State University.  Pullman is situated in the rolling hills of the Palouse.  The fall brings a unique beauty to Pullman with all the cut fields of wheat and leaves turning color.  Please enjoy the beauty of our bit of paradise courtesy of Robert and Eric Tetzlaff, printed with their permission.  It happens to me one of my personal favorites.
