When a question sounds like one thing but is actually another - 06/29/12 09:47 PM
It’s been a crazy week!  One that has been busy, fun, but a little exhausting!  However, this evening I am taking a little time to lighten up!  As some of you know, in addition to being a Realtor for the past 30 years, I also worked at an international software development company during the years 1997 and 2005.  The job was slated to last a mere 3 months, but instead lasted 8 ½ years!  The years moved swiftly, as I worked at the Research and Development Center, with folks exploring the cutting edge of technology.  Sometimes, the exploration would have humorous … (15 comments)

The Evolution of the English Language - 06/20/12 05:24 PM

For those who adhere to speaking and writing while using the Queen’s English, there may be distress in knowing language endures as an evolutionary process.
Here are some examples:Past: How great thou art!
Present: You are great! (or...You Rock!)

Past: Here ye, here ye!Present: Listen up! (also…Shut up and listen!)

There are certainly rules of grammar and syntax that remain constant with the ages, but there are also nuances continually creeping into the vernacular. Before a writing class a few years back, I had increasingly noted our language was experiencing the disappearance of the word, “that.”  When I … (21 comments)

Ya Gotta Just Love Washington These Days! - 06/13/12 03:31 PM
Ya gotta just love how Washington works these days!  And it has only gotten better since the Supreme Court came down with their landmark decision awhile back! The court's decision provided personhood to corporations and institutions.  Yep folks, the banks, the pharmaceutical companies, the oil companies, and other mega industries, can shove as much money as they wish into the coffers of elected officials, and totally outgun the average citizen multiple times over in power and influence!  I had to smile at the symbiotic, if not incestuous relationships, breathing the same air at the Senate Banking Committee hearings today.  J.P. Morgan’s Jamie Dimon, … (17 comments)

The Old Courthouse in Auburn California - 06/11/12 04:15 PM
As one journeys east from Sacramento on highway 80, they encounter California Gold Rush era Old Town Auburn - approximately 30 miles from Sacramento.  There are landmarks in Auburn, which have remained unchanged by time.  Because I enjoy revisiting old landmarks from my earliest memories, the old courthouse in Auburn is always a welcome sight.  The courthouse cornerstone was laid July 4th 1894.  100 years later, the community raised over six million to restore it, and on July 4th 1994, it was once again opened to the public. Here's the thing about Auburn, the John Travolta movie, "Phenomenon" was filmed there in … (21 comments)

Home Inspection Nightmares XVII - This Old House Presentation - 06/09/12 04:19 PM

I often enjoy visiting the “This Old House” website for information and ideas.

They are currently running a photo series labeled, “Best Built-In Before and Afters for 2012,” presenting amazing home renovations.
Another of my favorite “This Old House” website sections is devoted to home inspection nightmares.  Their latest series of pictures, titled, Home Inspection Nightmares XVII provides a slide show of photos, which are absolutely hilarious, if not downright dangerous.  It is definitely worth a few laughs :-)Here's the link: This Old House Home Inspection Nightmares

Just About the Time You Think You Have Thought of Everything - 06/01/12 09:28 PM
There are times when the world seems to be turning upside down.  Especially when it’s things that begin with good intentions.  However, we know what they say about the road to Hell being paved with good intentions!

While talking with a neighbor through the backyard fence this morning, she mentioned something I had seen reported a few days ago.

I head up the Neighborhood Watch for my area.  Our group isn’t as formal as some groups are.  But, we do have our little signs in windows, and we have the list of neighbors, with addresses and phone numbers.  If … (12 comments)
