citrus heights: All Are Welcome At Nana’s House on the 4th of July
- 07/04/10 01:19 AM
My family is home for the holiday. I am always surprised how this house is quiet so much of the time - almost like a sanctuary! But when everyone comes home, it becomes packed with raw energy. When daughter Tami arrived, with granddaughters, Isabella and Sophi, they also came with an agenda of finding a new pet bunny. Within a short time, they were cruising Craig's List on my computer and looking for a furry friend. A couple hours later, the body count at Nana's had increased by 1.

citrus heights: Keeping Them Rolling During a Budgetary Crisis
- 06/23/10 02:55 PM
It is certainly no secret that many states and communities have struggled with budgetary constraints in the last few years. Police and Fire departments have been especially hit. However, I found possible evidence, on the streets of one Greater Sacramento Community, that a local fire department is doing a great job keeping some older vehicles in its fleet rolling:-) It really put a smile on my face! I take pictures for the purpose of remembering fond times. I do not impose copyright restrictions on this photo, so you may feel free to use, or distribute as you wish. citrus heights: Local Farmer's Markets Promise to Delight
- 04/18/09 09:35 AM
Every Saturday morning I have a little ritual. As I rub my eyes, and reach for my slippers, I begin to imagine all the sweet and delightful things to eat and see at a local Farmer's Market, which gathers each Saturday in the back parking lot (near Sears), at Sunrise Mall. This time of year, is always so delightful because the weather is nice; and the smell of fresh baked bread from Sacramento Bakery, and fresh brewed coffee from the little vendor in the next stand, blend sweetly with the fresh flowers and waft on the breeze. However, that being said

citrus heights: Fair Oaks to Host Third Annual Chicken Festival
- 09/01/08 02:30 AM
Have any of you local to Greater Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties, heard about the Fair Oaks Chicken Festival? Old Fair Oaks Village has a population of chickens that pretty much rule the roost, and have the run of streets, shops, restaurants, and the village park. Their habitation of the Village, adds charm and a quaint ambiance to the area. While other communities like Gillroy may have it's Garlic Festival, or while Isleton lays claim to the Crawdad Festival, Fair Oaks has it's Chicken Festival. And the public is invited. On Friday, September 19th there will be a BBQ. And on Saturday September 20th, The Third

citrus heights: Free Credit Reports and Avoiding Scams that Surround Them
- 08/15/08 03:16 AM
Often when folks are readying themselves to buy homes, one of their first acts of readiness is to obtain their all important credit score. By law, consumer credit reporting companies, Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, are to provide you a free copy of your credit report, once a year, should you request it.There is a toll-free number, mailing address, and a central website, which you can reach these the three companies mentioned above: http://www.annualcreditreport.com It should also been known there are companies that claim to provide this free service. However, there is also and high incidence of questionable practices surrounding some of them.

citrus heights: The Once-in-a-Lifetime Rule
- 08/02/08 12:54 AM
Often GreatWest GMAC Real Estate professionals will be asked by home buyers if home sellers age 55 or older were still allowed a once-in-a-lifetime tax exemption of up to $125,000 in sale profit. That is no longer true. On May 7, 1997, the tax law on home sales changed. If you live or dwell in the house for two of the five years before you sell, the IRS won't collect tax on sale profit of up to $250,000 if you're single or $500,000 if you and your spouse file a joint return. Currently the law rewards people who sell frequently. In

citrus heights: How to Handle a Default Notice
- 07/31/08 05:19 PM
Jarina Mohammed, an agent in one of our GreatWest GMAC offices, has performed quite a bit of research on trying to help folks that are threated with default on their homes. She has given permission to share what she has learned. . .It follows here: Are you one of the homeowners that fell into an adjustable rate mortgage, and have received a default notice? A word to the wise - do not panic. Many homeowners panic first and think later. This leads to frustration and conflict, and can result in loss of money. Recent calls from homeowners stating that they fell in to

citrus heights: Living the "Simple Life" in Amish Country
- 07/22/08 05:47 PM
In early May I made a trip to Amish Country in Lancaster County, PA. And took a long buggy ride through the countryside. It was the fulfilment of a longtime dream. There was so much I learned about living the "simple life" that was interesting to ponder. For starters, consider this. We pay more than $4.00 a gallon for gas. But Daffy (the horse) only eats a little grain, and hay:-) It was a long long way from California.

citrus heights: How to Go on Vacation - While Saving for a Down Payment
- 07/05/08 11:31 PM
GreatWest GMAC Real Estate professionals know there hasn't been a buying opportunity in the housing market like what we are currently experiencing in a very long time. We also know many folks interested in buying a home are somewhat cash strapped for cash to use as a down payment, or closing costs. High gas prices, and the increases in food costs are not helping efforts to put extra cash aside for obtaining the dream of home ownership. However, there are some things you can do today, which can aid you in your ability to remedy that. Summer is the time of
