rancho cordova: Indian Spice Restaurant in Greater Sacramento - 06/19/14 08:57 AM
There is a great eating spot along Sunrise Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, near highway 50, which has newly opened.   Indian Spice Restaurant  offers great Indian Food.
The restaurant’s location at 2228 Sunrise Boulevard has experienced two prior Indian eateries (Udupi and Namaste Nepal) which tried their luck at that address.  All offered good food, but didn’t manage to stay open.  I suspect much had to do with the economy a few years ago.
This week, after a busy morning of shopping, I stopped by Indian Spice to check out the lunch buffet for a mere $7.95, and was pleasantly surprised by … (14 comments)

rancho cordova: A Pond Visited Between Rains - 11/20/13 12:21 AM
The storm clouds predicted to bring rain in our area yesterday, made a split and headed a tad north and a little south of us.  While we need the precip, it provided a window of opportunity for me to jump on my bike.
The thing about riding a bicycle in the Greater Sacramento region is no two rides are alike!  There’s always something fresh and new, to experience within the first few minutes of pedaling.
When I came upon this scene at the Hagan Community Park pond, in Rancho Cordova, I found several fishermen hooking trout, which had been planted, earlier in the day!

rancho cordova: A First Time For Everything on The American River Parkway - 11/15/13 11:17 PM
Without a doubt, this autumn in the Greater Sacramento Region has been one of the more pleasant in memory.
The spring and summer months had seemed so very busy. There were improvements made to my home and joyful family encounters, which moved time along at break-neck pace. My bicycle, which often transports me into nature’s world, a couple blocks from home, was neglected more than deserved.
The Salmon are making their annual migration up the American River to the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. So, during a quiet hour this week, I dusted off the bike seat, and headed for the Parkway, to see … (12 comments)

rancho cordova: Easter Fun @ Hagan Community Park - 03/30/13 07:14 AM
This morning while out riding my bike along the American River Parkway, I came across these scenes at Hagan Community Park in Rancho Cordova.  The park district in concert with the Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club hosted fun Easter activities for the community.
The weather was overcast, but didn’t dampen the spirits of those attending.  There was a Pancake Breakfast, Egg Hunts for the kids, a Small Carnival and Games.
While watching the various reactions of the kids visiting the Easter Bunny, I had to smile.  They either loved him or hated him!  The little gal pictured thought he was pretty cool!

rancho cordova: Young LIfe at Rancho Cordova's Hagan Park - 03/29/12 09:33 AM
Here is living proof that spring is in the air.  A visit to Hagan Community Park in Greater Sacramento’s City of Rancho Cordova, found this little family of ducks doing their thing in one of the local ponds.

Temperatures today in the upper 60s, seemed to elevate spirits of not only the ducks, but wild turkeys and birds.  Delightful Hagan Community Park consists of 75 acres.  The park itself boasts facilities consisting of a Community Center, 3 swimming pools, 8 tennis courts, 8 group picnic areas, 3 baseball fields, 3 soccer fields, basketball court, petting zoo, play grounds, tot lots, fitness course, … (12 comments)

rancho cordova: Holiday Ice Rink in the City of Rancho Cordova - 12/03/11 02:39 PM

In the Greater Sacramento City of Rancho Cordova, a special attraction has been set up for the enjoyment of young and old.
The Cordova Community Council, City of Rancho Cordova, and many community partners, have for the very first time, set up a Holiday Ice Rink.  This evening I was driving near the intersection of Zinfandel and Data Drives, when I came across this delightful scene next to the Rancho Cordova Community Christmas Tree.

It was fun watching adults and kids, either on the ice, or enjoying other carnival activities.  Chilly winds are still lingering locally, and the wind-chill factor isn't very comfortable.  Yet, the kids and … (20 comments)

rancho cordova: 22nd Annual "Kid's Day in the Park" Was a Success - 04/30/11 01:14 PM

It was warm and breezy in the Greater Sacramento Region today.   I decided to drive over to Hagan Community Park in Rancho Cordova, to check out the Annual Kids Day event!  The festival hosted approximately 2,000 kids and adults to participate in free kid activities.  The event was bigger this year than ever before.
The activities included FREE Sacramento Valley Live Steamers train rides, face painting, music, a raffle for bicycles, petting zoo, hayrides, live stage entertainment - and a variety of other games, activities and GREAT food!
Dozens of service organizations were on hand to provide demonstrations and information to assist children and … (14 comments)

rancho cordova: How Low Can They Go? - 08/14/10 10:01 AM
The interest rate for 15-year fixed rate mortgages felt to a mere 3.92% representing the lowest since 1991, when Freddie Mac began tracking.  And down from the 3.95% rate available the previous week.
CNN Money presents a more detailed report written by Hibah Yousuf, about these latest mortgage rates, and about surveys Freddie Mac and Bankrate.com perform, in conjunction with the larger lenders across the country.  It can be accessed via: "30-Year Mortgage at Lowest Rate Since 1971."
Homebuyers in this market are dwelling in an astonishing window of time.  Affordable prices and interest rates have come together to create a perfect storm for home-buying opportunity.

rancho cordova: Tranquil Scenes Along Sacramento's American River - 08/11/10 08:15 AM

(Slide Show has 8 images)
It seems every few days or so, I feel compelled to blog about how fortunate I feel living in the Greater Sacramento Area.  We are rich in nature areas, wonderful attractions, activities, and events to keep an active mind inspired and satisfied.
This past weekend, I spent time with three of my granddaughters.  The agenda was to return to the American River Parkway, to catch a glimpse of the deer herd that dwells in a certain area of the 22 mile stretch along the American River, between Old Sacramento, and Folsom.  We also planned a little berry picking while we … (35 comments)

rancho cordova: All Are Welcome At Nana’s House on the 4th of July - 07/04/10 01:19 AM

My family is home for the holiday.  I am always surprised how this house is quiet so much of the time - almost like a sanctuary!  But when everyone comes home, it becomes packed with raw energy.
When daughter Tami arrived, with granddaughters, Isabella and Sophi, they also came with an agenda of finding a new pet bunny.
Within a short time, they were cruising Craig's List on my computer and looking for a furry friend.  A couple hours later, the body count at Nana's had increased by 1.

rancho cordova: Life Really Does Have Alternative Realities - 06/26/10 10:44 AM

(Slide Show contains 11 images)
I have shuffled around this planet long enough to know a gal needs to always have a "Plan B" simmering on the back burner.  Because as John Lennon said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."
I've often wondered what I would do at this stage in my life, if a big disaster came, wiped me out financially, destroyed my home, and life as I know it!  Would I attempt to start all over again to recreate what I had, or would I do something totally different.
The answer is I would likely do things differently.  … (25 comments)

rancho cordova: Keeping Them Rolling During a Budgetary Crisis - 06/23/10 02:55 PM

It is certainly no secret that many states and communities have struggled with budgetary constraints in the last few years.  Police and Fire departments have been especially hit.
However, I found possible evidence, on the streets of one Greater Sacramento Community, that a local fire department is doing a great job keeping some older vehicles in its fleet rolling:-)
It really put a smile on my face!
