The Nyack Community Garden is accepting applications for the 2012 season. Those interested should respond as soon as possible as plots and membership are limited. This home is designated as a 2 family, but is currently being used as a one family residence. It offers many possibilities. (1 comments)
piermeont real estate: Marriage Officer In Nyack - 07/18/11 06:06 AM
After the legalization of same sex marriage in New York the village board of Nyack has decided to name John Shields, former mayor of Nyack our first marriage officer. Shields filed a lawsuit against the Orangetown town clerk and the state asking that marriage licenses be issued to same-sex couples. Shields' term begins July 24, when the state's Marriage Equality Act takes effect. The position of marriage officer is without salary, and will last for one year. (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Nyack Politics - 07/16/11 06:58 AM
It seems Mayor Richard Kavesh had a change of heart, as he decided to give up his right to use the Nyack First party name. Trustee Jen Laird-White, who is challenging Kavesh for mayor, and Trustee Doug Foster created the Nyack First Party in 2009. The name must be registered and reserved annually, which Kavesh did before Laird-White and Foster could. Foster said Kavesh was within his legal rights but accused him of dirty politics. Kavesh said he had no intention of using the name. Mayor Kavesh will use the Preserve Nyack line. (1 comments)
piermeont real estate: Piermont's Dog Run - 07/09/11 07:27 AM
There is a new dog run in Piermont thanks to the efforts that some local citizens put together. The Happy Dog Gallery in Piermont held a fundraiser and the Piermont Dog Run opened in May 2010. The board of trustees decided that the dog run could be on a village owned piece of land as long as there was no cost to the village. The fundraiser generated about $12,000, and there is even money left over to maintain the dog run. As of now, said Grace, the Piermont Dog Run has about 100 members and is maintained by volunteers. The dogs (1 comments)
piermeont real estate: Nyack 4th of July Fireworks - 06/26/11 06:51 AM
Nyack will celebrate Independence Day on July 4 with fireworks at Memorial Park starting at approximately 8p. It is always a good idea to leave yourself extra time to find parking, and walk to your destination. I also think it is a good idea to bring along a light folding chair for maximum comfort as you view Nyack's spectacular fireworks display. (0 comments)

Well the kids were excited as yesterday was the first pool day at the Nyack Field Club-one of Nyack's wonderful venues for sports and socializing. The water was still too cold for me, but the kids didn't seem to mind. Today is not looking like another pool day, but we can hope. Have several appointments at my new listing at 119 Piermont Ave in South Nyack-interest is very high.Check out the view.

piermeont real estate: Rain In Rockland County - 05/19/11 06:35 AM
Talked to several people last night all of whom had some water in their basement. One person said she had never had water. This continuous rain for days just saturates the ground, and the water has no place to go after awhile. Nyack and some of the Rivertowns have a high water table in spots which doesn't help after days of rain. If you don't want water in your basement(who does) you have a couple of choices. You can dig around the outside of the foundation, and install a french drain. This is very expensive, and you need plenty of room (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Open House In Tappan - 05/17/11 06:09 AM
Looking out my window seeing the heavy rain coming down one has to be sympathetic to all the realtors who are visiting and hosting open houses today. The agents who are hosting have to protect their homes from footprints and water on the floors, and the agents visiting the open houses valiantly try to remain dry and professional looking-not easy. Doesn't the weather know not to rain on Tuesdays in the Nyack area? (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Confirmation Party In Piermont - 05/16/11 06:49 AM
Well the rain did come for the Nyack Street Fair, but not enough to keep people away. Had a decent turnout at my open house at the Clermont. Ended the day in Piermont at a lovely dinner hosted by the parents of one the kids in my daughter's confirmation class. It was potluck and the food was delicious. We contributed my husbands delicious, homemade, apple pie and chocolate chip cookies. Have a good week. (0 comments)
This Tuesday May 17 is Election Day for school board candidates in Rockland County. As we all know the quality of the schools is one of the key factors in deciding which community many young people who have families or are thinking of starting families are going to live in and raise their families. It is essential that we in Rockland County learn as much about the various candidates as possible to make informed decisions. School budgets will also be on the ballot, and schools have been forced to tighten the purse strings ever more this year. The key here (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Groggy In Nyack - 05/13/11 06:02 AM
Well a skunk woke me up this morning. He must have had a run in with the mole I saw lurking around the front yard last night. I am feeling good this morning-just took two new listings. One listing was in Tappan and the other is in South Nyack and has a beach. What fun! I think it is a Friday that deserves a celebration - dinner at Cafe Barcel in Nyack tonight with good friends. Everyone have a great weekend. (1 comments)
piermeont real estate: Nyack's Coming Elections in November - 05/12/11 06:07 AM
Well it looks like there is going to be a contested election in Nyack this November. We seem to have two Democratic candidates for mayor so far, and who at least two democratic candidates who have expressed interest in running for Village Trustee. We haven't heard from the Republican side yet. One of the top issues facing voters in Nyack this election will be the Riverspace project. Questions about the size and scope will be hotly debated topics. This project will affect the fabric of downtown community, and we will wait to hear what the different candidates have to say on (0 comments)

piermeont real estate: Nyack Library Rededication - 05/08/11 07:10 AM
About 100 Nyack residents and other guests attended the rededication of the Nyack library on Saturday. The ceremony included many local politicians as well as Elliot Engel. The renovation took three years at a cost of $11.5 million. The facility doubles the library's size and makes room for newer forms of technology. Entertainment was provided by the Lower Hudson Valley Youth Chorus and there was a symbolic ribbon cutting. Thanks to all who brought this incredible project to fruition. (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Decisions In Nyack Regarding Offers - 05/07/11 09:14 PM
Deciding which offer to accept on your home is a bit like deciding when it is time to sell a stock. No one has a crystal ball, but here are a few thoughts that may help. Make sure your buyer is prequalified. You don't want to go through the whole process and find out the financing isn't there. The urgency of your move may dictate what offer you accept. If the current market has put your home underwater this is not the time to sell. What is the market climate at the moment? Do you think other offers will come or (0 comments)
piermeont real estate: Home Inspection in the Nyack Community and Beyond - 04/30/11 07:15 AM
If you are unclear as to what protection a home inspection provides I will try and clarify in today's blog. An inspection is very similar to an annual checkup at the doctor's office. You want to know how things are going both at the doctor's office and in the house you are about to buy. An inspection can in many cases offer you a wedge in negotiating the sale price depending on what is found. Many of us have been in the situation where we fall in love with a house, but are wary of the amount of money that will (2 comments)
