What is a "TOR"? Are there real "TOR"s or are there fake "TOR"s?
Webster's dictionary defines TOR: noun; rocky pinnacle; a peak of a bare or rocky mountain or hill.
Could there be real peaks of a rocky mountain or could there be fake peaks?
The question relating to real estate is:
If the mountain, is the climb, to the dream of home ownership, are you the peak?
Are you on the top? Are you the summit of the dream of home ownership in your client's mind? When it comes to home ownership are you top of mind in your client's mind?
Climbing up the mountain of paper work and legal mumbo jumbo related to a real estate transaction and finally reaching the top- home ownership is quite a hike! Most consumers don't realize the in's & out's of the legal agreement they just agreed to let alone what they have to do to fulfill the promises they just made.
Mapping all these steps out on paper and reviewing these with your clients, be they sellers or buyers helps identify your value as a REALTOR and keeps you on the top of the mountain and top of their minds!
I know I am not the only one in this situation. I did not even know I was in this situation. Until I decided to change companies recently. The change in the market has made many of us tighten our belts. I know that I am much more careful what I spend my advertising dollars on and how I market properties. Not to mention where I grocery shop or fuel up the tank.
I changed offices recently and one of the benefits is that my office is located about 2 miles from where I live instead of nearly 25 miles. I work from home mostly so one would think that is not a big deal. However, I had two fully functioning offices. Although I really only worked from home I kept the office at the office in case I had clients. Rarely did I use it. But this meant I had two desks, two or more file cabinets, printers, phones, internet services, storage cabinets, client chairs etc... WOW!
It did not seem to matter which office I was at, the biggest problem I had was sometimes I realized that the paper or the file, I needed was at the "other office" 25 miles away.
When I changed companies this time I really pared down. I now have one desk, one file cabinet, one phone, more importantly one location for everything I need. I don't have an office at the office. I currently work from home as I have in the past but everything I need is here.
I did not realize having my stuff scattered across the county would have that much affect on my productivity. It really did not seem to matter much when fuel was not over four dollars a gallon either.
I am sure that I am not the only one that has made some changes about how they do business as a result of the increase cost of fuel and the market tightening up.
I know I am more conscience of the way I drive since becoming a real estate agent. I always think of public impressions and the first impressions mean everything, right? So sometimes I am more conscience of how I drive. Maybe because I am getting older or maybe it because I am a professional real estate agent, none the less it can't be a bad thing.
Although I have not been in a auto accident in quite sometime, I can't say I always obey the traffic laws. I don't know why because I really hate paying tickets!
Yesterday I was in a vehicle that I normally do not drive and I was talking on the phone (as usual). Talking on the cell is not illegal in this state. I know it is not the safest thing to do.
I noticed that there was an agent behind me. I could tell by the movement of his mouth that he was cussing me about the way I was driving. I was driving slowly.
I tried to get his attention but obviously he was too busy and too much in a hurry to be bothered with me.
Later I emailed him and told him I saw him driving. As soon as he got the email he called and said, "Was you driving the white van in front of me going too slow?" I said yes and laughed. We both laughed.
Moral of the story, be careful who you are cussing out as you are driving down the road... just because you don't recognize the car does not mean you may not know who is driving. :-)
I feel frustrated that I don't feel compelled to write about real estate tonight. But I've been real estating all day and I just wanted to take some time to wind down and think about this day. Lord, knows there is much more to my life than real estate.
I am very lucky that I have the people in my life today who love & care about me and really actively participate in my success. For without these folks I would not be here. I hope that one day I can give back what has so freely been given to me.
I volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and I've been a big sister for about five or six years now. Some days I am tired and feel like I have nothing to give. However, being a Big Sister has really been a gift to me.
My little sister lost her mom when she was three to cancer. Her dad has really struggled to hold the family together. This kid is really a trooper. She is going to be sixteen this year and I think she is going to be okay in spite of what she has been through or maybe because of what she has been through, depending on how you look at it.
I may never be a wealthy person. But I am very rich in love and gratitude.
I can't believe I did it. Okay, I do believe it and I am very thrilled. For me it was quite an accomplishment. I took the brokers test and passed. Also decided to change companies at the same time. I've been a busy gal.
Passing the brokers test really has given me a greater sense of confidence. Sometimes I need a boost.
Everyone I talked to said the brokers test wasn't too hard. "It's just like the principals test". WRONG! I had every question about time shares and cooperatives. I don't specialize in either of those markets. Those answers don't roll of my head to be honest.
Real Estate is so diverse. I find it really hard to know everything and besides that gee, it is likely to change as soon as I figure it out!
I enjoy keeping up with the changes in real estate. This is one of the best parts of my profession. It changes constantly. Education is one of my core values.
So there ya go folks! I'll spend my day, changing my for sale signs and updating my listings and websites.

I just don't think you can ever find true balance. Well, maybe for a second or two. At least it has been my experience. I'm talking about the balance of the whole package. When financial, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of my life are truly in balance. It is something I really strive for. Generally on the top five priorities of every day.
I remember growing up and seeing so many people I thought were successful. They seemed to have it all. It looked like they had the balance between those five things (financial, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional). I wanted to be like them. I don't think it is just about the money in order to be successful. Because if you can't pull off a decent life what good is the money?
I've known folks how have made tons of bucks and have terrible family lives. They live in a big house and have a lot of influence in the community. So many of them have failing health because they work such long hours and don't take time for themselves.
I don't want to live like that. Success for me means being able to balance all this out. It is something I strive for but I'm not sure I will actually ever fully achieve it, balance that is.
Life is a constant flow. Constant change which really does not support balance if you expect to keep up with the flow.
I would not want to change my life. I am content striving for balance and content with my progress today at the moment. But I'll continue to go with the flow.
I am not just being biased because he is my son. However, this is only my opinion. My son who served in our armed forces and defended our country for the past five years returns home today. He joined shortly after 9/11.
In many parts of the world home ownership is not a dream let alone a reality. We are very lucky in our country anyone can own a home if they have the means to pay for it. If you have a dream and work hard you can own as many homes as you want! There is no limit!
It is a special day for me. I am very proud of my sons (I have two who have served our country, one of which that still is.), yet proud does not really descibe the feeling. As his mom, all I ever wanted was for him to reach his dreams in lifel
I am in the position to help others make their dreams of homeownership become a reality. I feel very priviledged to hold this position. It is my son others who serve beside him, who has made my dreams come true.
