Site plan approved for 6 screen theatre complex in Syracuse - 03/31/07 12:48 PM
The Syracuse city council has approved site plan for a theatre complex being developed by Hawes Brubaker Neider.  The theatre will be located near 2200 W, Antelope Drive, West of Wal-Mart.  Additional businesses planning to open in the area, include Wingers, Baskin-Robins, and a tanning salon.  Construction for the theatre could begin as early as April 2007. … (0 comments)

Bond to pay for enclosure at North Shore Aquatic Center may be voted on in June - 03/31/07 12:36 PM
North Ogden residents may be voting in June on whether to support a general obligation bond of up to $2 million to pay for an enclosure at the North Shore Aquatic Center.  A poll of local residents indicates that the bond would increase taxes about $26 on a $167,000 house.  The proposed enclosure would be mostly glass with a rectractable roof and would be 95 x 122 feet.  The North Ogden City Council will vote on April 10th to decide whether the proposed general obligation bond should be included on the ballet during public elections to be held June 26th, 2007.  … (0 comments)

Culinary water reservoir approved for Bison Creek Ranch subdivision (Hwy 39) - 03/31/07 06:46 AM
The Ogden Valley Planning Commission has approved a culinary water reservoir that will supply a new development off of Highway 39.  The Bison Creek Ranch development will include 150 high end homes, trails, and some wet lands.  The developer Destination Eden, has also received approval for a sewage plant that will serve the subdivision a few smaller divisions that are planned for the area.

US Congress passes bill that would investigate increasing capacity of Willard Bay - 03/21/07 12:52 AM
The Arthur B. Watkins Dam Enlargment Act bill (H.R. 839), sponsored by Rep. Bob Bishop, was passed by Congress on Monday.  The bill authorizes the Secretary of the Interior, Dirk Kempthome, to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of increasing the capacity of the Arthur V. Watkins Dam Weber Basin Project, i.e. Willard Bay.  Orin Hatch is sponsoring a similar bill (S. 512) in the Senate with similar wording for the study.  The primary of such a study would be to examine a potential way of increasing / retaining fresh water to supply the growing communities in the area.  Please post … (0 comments)

First-class mail increases to 41 cents on May 14th, 2007. - 03/21/07 12:43 AM
The United States Postal Service will be increasing the cost of first-class mail (one ounce rate) to 41 cents on May 14, 2007.  The postal service will be offering a Forever Stamp at the new rate (41 cents) that will still be valid for first-class postage after any future price increases.  It is not apparent when Forever Stamps will be available.  If someone knows, I would appreciate a comment on my main blog.  Thanks. … (1 comments)

Proposed Subdivision in East Ogden - 03/20/07 09:29 PM
The approval of a new subdivision that will calls for 28 lots in East Ogden has residents having mixed reactions.  Some think it will bring new life to the area east of Simoron Avenue at Hudson street.  Some, that it will have to many homes and less room for animal life.  The proposed subdivision is 10 acres in size.  It would be phase 2 of the Alta Vista subdivision.  The subdivision also has plans of extending Hudson street across the way from the vacant lot to the esar, with cul-de-sac streets coming off of it from the south and the north.  … (0 comments)

Conditional-use permit approved for Sewage Treatment plant at 8150 E. Highway 39 - 03/18/07 10:12 PM
The Ogden Valley Planning Commision approved a conditional-use permit for a sewage treatment plant that will serve a proposed 150 home subdivision (Bison Creek Ranch) and several smaller subdivisions.  The treatment plant is being designed to look like a barn and will use membrane bioreactor technology.  Weber County will govern the plant, once its built.  The treatment plant will be able to service approximately 225 homes.  Destination Eden, the developer of Bison Creek Ranch, is also working to get approval for a culinary water reservoir that will supply the subdivision.

Registration will be held March 19-23 2007 from 3pm-7pm and on March 24th at 8 am - 12pm at the recreation office. North Ogden Residents Can Register on-line for swim programs - 03/05/07 11:45 PM
April 2-15, 2007 Residents can sign up for lessons.  This can be done at http://www.northogdencity.com/.  On April 16, 2007 on-line registration is open to non-residents as well.  On May 1, 2007, anyone can register in person. Monday-Friday 3-6pm.  On Saturday May 26th, 2007 North Shore opens for the summer swim season.
North Shore Aquatic Center will be hiring over 50 lifeguards for 2007.  All lifeguards and swim instructors must be American Red Cross Certified by April and be at least 16 years old.  For more information call Michele at 801-782-9712.

The North Ogden Pre-K Kickball league is open to boys and girls who be starting Kindeergarten in August 2007.  This league teaches the basic fundamentals of baseball/softball and will will get your child ready for next year's t-ball season.  Each player receives a N.Ogden kickball hat.  All games are played on Tuesday's and Thursday's 5pm.  June 5-28 $20.00 for residents and $30.00 for non residents. Possible Subdivision on the Highway between Huntsville and Causey Reservior - 03/05/07 11:38 PM
A preliminary plan has been approved for 150 homes to be built off of Highway 39.  There would also be a sewage treatment plan that would serve the new homes.  At a recent meeting, some commissioners support and some oppose.  The concern that was voiced at a meeting was to protect the wetlands.  There was talk about ways that the homes could be built and the wetlands can also be protected.  The builder is Destination Eden and the propsed land is 460 acres of land. … (0 comments)

Ogden city requires carbon monoxide detectors in homes by 1 Nov 2007 - 03/02/07 12:52 AM
On 20 Feb 2007, the Ogden city council approved an ordinance requiring all Ogden homes have a carbon monoxide dectector by 1 Nov 2007.  The ordinance specifies that homeowners without a detector could be fined a $50 civil penalty, but would waive the penalty if a detector is installed within 30 days.  The ciy has approximately 875 carbon monoxide detectors that they plan to sell to the public for $8 each.  Proceeds from fines and detector sales, will be used to purchase more detectros for sale to the public. … (0 comments)

Daylight Savings Time - Move clock forward one hour - 03/02/07 12:49 AM
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 signed by George W. Bush, has expanded the Daylight Saving Time (DST) period.  We are moving our clocks ahead one hour almost a month earlier this year.  On March 11th, 2:00 am your clock should be moved ahead one hour.  This expanded time period may continue depending on a study by the Department of Energy on the impacts of the time change.  DST is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Arizona.  The Navajo Nation does observe DTS (even in Arizona).  For more information, click here. … (0 comments)

North Ogden City plans to upgrade North Ogden Park in 2008 - 03/02/07 12:46 AM
North Ogden City has big plans for the North Ogden Park ( currently located on 2650 North)  North Ogden Elementary school and the park swapped land in 2005.  The plan is for North Ogden elementary to be torn down and rebuilt on where the current park and the old North Ogden pool was.  The new park will be built where the Elementary was located. The projected year will be in 2008.

Utah House Bill 365 makes eminent domain easier for Utah cities. - 03/02/07 12:43 AM
Utah House Bill 365 was unanimously approved by the Utah state senate on Wednesday (28 Feb 2007) and was passed by the Utah House last week (64-3 vote).  HB 365 requires an 80% majority of residential owners or 75% of commercial owners to give approval in petition form before redevelopment agencies can exercise eminent domain over a project area.  Eminent domain could also be exercised if approvals are received from owners of 70% of the residential value or 60% of commercial value in the area.  This means that individual owners will no longer be able to block the sale of their property if their … (5 comments)
