Home Staging is Tax-Deductible! - 07/30/08 06:30 AM
Home staging is tax-deductible!All of us in the staging business know that education is one of our principle responsibilities and greatest challenges. We know that staging creates value and results in quicker sales, but sometimes homeowners and Realtors need convincing. There is often a perception that staging is something of a gamble. Realtors are sometimes hesitant to approach homeowners with the suggestion that they spend more money out-of-pocket for something that may or may not produce the desired result. Homeowners who have not hired a professional stager before worry that they may not recoup the cost. This is especially true of those needing … (0 comments)

Why List a Vacant Home When You can Sell a Showhome? - 07/23/08 05:42 PM
Statistics show that homes that are furnished, staged and maintained in show condition sell 30-90 days faster and sell for 10-20% higher prices than comparable vacant homes. We'd like to show you how much value we can add to your vacant listings.
Showhomes also relieves Realtors® of the hassles that often come with vacant listings, so you can focus on selling.  No more empty, musty rooms, or client confusion over where furniture might fit.  Once your vacant house becomes a Showhome, you can count on having a clean, beautifully decorated home that is warm in the winter and cool in the … (2 comments)

Who Are Home Managers? - 07/16/08 03:50 PM
I get this question a lot, "Who are home managers, and why should I use them?"
The short answer:
There are discerning individuals looking to rent high-end homes; they have high-end furniture, but can't seem to find upscale accommodations to rent.  These people are ideal home managers.
By placing a Home manager into a luxurious but vacant home, the property flourishes with warmth, personality and life, bringing emotion back into the purchasing equation.
Home managers get their needs met by living in high-end homes and enjoying the lifestyle.
Homeowners get a fully staged house at a fraction of the cost.
Realtors … (0 comments)

I Just Can't Wrap My Mind Around It - Part 2 - 07/14/08 05:24 PM
I know I probably sounded like I was just whining and complaining the last few times I posted - especially since I was admittedly coming from a place of frustration in dealing with a few homeowners who did not see the value of staging.
Interestingly enough, the quote that titles this post and the one a couple of weeks back is not in reference to my own thoughts.  Those words belong to the homeowner I spoke with.
The entire quote was this: "I just can't wrap my mind around it.  I own this property.  I'm paying the mortgage.  Why would I let … (0 comments)

Home Staging - What is It? - 07/04/08 01:22 AM
Depends on who you ask, right?
Earlier this week I joined a social networking group for local small businesses and entrepreneurs.
The organizer of the group asked me, what is the biggest obstacle I face?
My answer? I said education.  It seems to me that a surprising number of people still don't know what home staging is, and even when they've heard of it, they're still not sure what the term means.  This is complicated by the fact that such a wide variety of services fall under the term 'home staging'.
Home stagers offer everything from walk-through consultations that result in reports including simple … (1 comments)

Benefits of Belonging to a Franchise - 07/01/08 11:14 PM
For whatever reason I woke up in a funk this morning.  I was feeling frustrated and stuck.
My life and business are actually going very well, but I'm a perfectionist; therefore I sometimes find myself unhappy with very good results that just happen not to be perfect.  And that is where I find myself right now.
So, I dashed off a quick e-mail to some of my friends who are franchise owners and other corporate contacts (including VP of Operations and fellow blogger Thom Scott).  And I said:  I'm feeling frustrated and stuck...who has words of encouragement for me?
Several franchisees e-mailed me … (1 comments)
