Coon Rapids is located in south central Anoka County. It is a mature suburb that has been recognized as THE most affordable place to live in the Twin Cities by local TV and new entities. Money Magazine lists it as as one of the best places to retire in 2006.The city borders the Mississippi River on the south. Coon Rapids has many parks, a growing new retail area (Riverdale area), and much of the city is covered with mature trees. It is home to the Anoka Ramsey Community College and its hospitals and schools are the city's biggest employers.
