Auctions In Farmville Virginia - Things to Do in Central Virginia
Every weekend in the fall and thru-out winter you can find an auction in Central Virginia. When I moved to Farmville these were a new idea to me. A girlfriend snagged me one Saturday and said, "let's go to an auction." I didn't know what to expect and went along willingly. After only one day I was hooked.
Upon arrival to the auction you use your driver's license to obtain a number for bidding. And then you follow the auctioner around as they lift up item after item for the crowd of people to begin bidding on. Sometimes the auctions are full of antiques, sometimes boxes of knick-knacks, farm equipment, cars, bikes and more have been auctioned. The lazy-boy sofa that is no longer used, the kitchen table and yes even the kitchen sink have been auctioned in Central Virginia auctions.
One day I had my oldest son with me and he bid on a box of goods. He paid $5 for his box. Inside he found a lamp, some baseball cards, a glass butter dish and some old wooden tools. He was very proud of his $5 purchase. I have picked up armoires, tables, chairs, rocking chairs and more.
The auctioneers will sell hamburgers, hot dogs, coffee and sodas to keep the people there thru hunger.
Sometimes I bid to get the auction started~~and sometimes I take the item home~~so be careful of starting the bidding. Sometimes the bidding goes fast and you get caught up in the moment. Sometimes you can nod your head and the auctioneer may think you want in. I have a friend that has a signal for the auctioneer so that no one else around knows he is bidding. My girlfriend when bidding will hold her number up as if to say, "I want this, you can't have it, walk away now." Some people hide their numbers and other bidders proudly display their bidding number. Watching the people is 1/2 the fun.
So as you drive thru Farmville, and any of the surrounding counties and you see the Auction Saturday sign, put it on your calendar. They are advertised in the local papers and on the radio stations. Most of the local companies have websites that fully describe the upcoming auctions. See you at the next Central Virginia Auction!
