You Might Face Tax-Filing Delay This Year

In a rush to claim the home owner tax benefits Congress reinstated? Not so fast. The IRS isn't ready to accept your tax returns.

Congress’s down-to-the-wire fiscal cliff deal on tax changes, which included some goodies for home owners, has put the IRS behind the eight ball. It’s scrambling to create new tax forms and modify old ones to reflect the tax code changes.

So if you’re raring to collect your due (and you’re eligible to), time to get Zen and sit tight.

In case you missed it, Congress resurrected:

Mortgage cancellation relief

Energy tax credits

The PMI deduction

So that’s the cool part. Now for the paperwork part.

What Kind of Delays are We Talking About?

The IRS was planning to have the 1040 — the workhorse form pretty much all of us have to fill out — on its website by Jan. 22. But now, it’s going to be Jan. 30. That means you can't file your return until Jan. 30. It doesn't matter if you file online or with paper — as far as filing is concerned, the IRS is closed for business until Jan. 30.

Still, that’s just over a week, and the various records you receive from banks, brokerages, and employers might not be ready until the end of January anyway. So it's not a biggie.

But if you're claiming the energy credits with Form 5695, you'll have to wait longer. The IRS doesn’t even know when that form, along with many others, will be available. End of February? Beginning of March? Stay tuned.

Regardless, you should still be able to meet the April 15 deadline.

For now, gather your paperwork, such as proof of any credits you're entitled to, so when the IRS is ready, you are, too. And check with your tax pro or customer service department of the software you use to make sure they're up to speed as well.

~ Locally owned.

~ Beautiful setting. Love the smell of Lavender.

~ Plethora of Lavender products. We tried their Lavender Chocolate Ice Cream, and it was delightful.

~ They serve dinner at their patio on the month of July.

~ Massages available by appointment.

CONS:

~ They close at 5 p.m. so may not be convenient for everyone.

~ Parking can be difficult but they have additional parking in the back.

Quaint little shop located at West 4th St. Get ready for your senses to wake up when you set foot in this place. Lavender aroma, beautiful setting, tantalizing product samples, and good food.

This is not a zoo. It is a sanctuary. It is about 40 minutes away from town. Some parts of the road are not paved. There is a picnic and play area. You may also want to dress in layers as it is in a higher elevation. If you are bringing little kids, make sure to bring a sturdy stroller that can endure dirt trails. Good thing we brought our jogging stroller.

PROS:

~ So glad that there is such thing exist otherwise these animals would be euthanized.

~ It is so humbling to see these predators up close and personal.

~ The trail is pretty easy and good exercise.

~ Beautiful mountain views that will leave you breathless.

~ Employees are very friendly.

CONS:

~ I really cannot think of anything that I do not like about this place.

This is a must see when you are in Reno. Try to go there early as it can get hot later on the day. The animals tend to be less active when it is hot.

Outdoor enthusiast written all over. My husband was like a kid in a candy store. He didn't know where to start.

PROS:

~ Extensive inventory. From hard to find items to your common everyday gear. You can order something on-line and have it delivered to the store for free.

~ Such an awesome display of animals. My toddler had his mouth open the entire time. He was just so busy looking at all the animals.

~ It is such a nice addition to the area and located in such a great location.

~ Excellent customer service. Our return was hassle free.

CONS:

~ It can be a bit expensive.

~ If you are not into hunting, you can get offended by the dead animals on display.

We planned on a quick trip but ended up staying there for an hour. I spent most of my time looking for my husband. The store is HUGE. It was fun shopping experience.

Stopped by here after church during lunch time. We got seated right away since we got there at 11:30 a.m. It was surprisingly small place and not enough elbow room. Nice view if you are seated by the window.

PROS:

~ The price is reasonable $16.99 for AYCE Lunch. It includes appetizers and a dessert.

~ Their seaweed salad is the best I have tasted. It reminds me of vermicelli but only in green.

~ Make sure to make room for dessert. Their fried banana ice ream is delicious.

~ Nice view.

CONS:

~ The service could be better. We had to keep flagging our server for refill. I really don't remember her smiling at all.

~ The mussels were DRY and CHEWY. It must have been under the warmer way too long.

~ The portions were small.

~ VERY little elbow room between tables.

~ Limited menu.

It was a mediocre experience. I still love Sushi Pier 2.

We went there on Valentine's Day weekend and waited for about 35 minutes. I am still in shock how busy they were. The place was not very big so it took longer than it really should.

They owners are marketing geniuses. They are equipped with website, loyalty program, and active on Yelp!

PROS:

~ Holy Crab $21.99 Loads of Alaskan crab. Very tasty.

~ Racy Tracy $12.99 Bacon, avocado, mushrooms and jack cheese. Fluffy and flavorful. Just melts in your mouth.

~ Sauces. I love the mushroom sauce $1.49

~ Friendly people. They were efficient in making sure our cups were filled and articulate about explaining the menu.

~ Fun place for our toddler. They placed a small bin of toys on our table to keep our toddler occupied.

CONS:

~ The OCD in me wants to organize and redecorate the place. It's like a garage sale gone bad.

~ EXPENSIVE for a breakfast joint! Seriously! Why charge $1.49 for mushroom sauce if I am already paying $21.99 for Holy Crab and $12.99 for Racy Tracy?!

~ It took forever to get our bill. I decided to go up to the cashier and paid there.

~ Waited 35 minutes to be seated, and then another 20 minutes to get our food. If you do not like waiting, this is not the place to be.

If you love omelet, this is the place to be. Prepare to wait and pay a bit more for extra ordinary omelets. I am giving it four stars because the food is good.

This is an Americanized Japanese Restaurant. We got seated quickly, and the Host was quite friendly. It is conveniently located next to the Century Theater at The Summit.

PROS:

~ The Udon was very tasty, hot, and slippery noodles.

~ The tempura was just the right combination of crispiness and flavor.

~ Convenient and easy to find.

~ The Ginger ice cream was a bit deceiving. It looked like it had a hint of chocolate but it was all Ginger. I like it though.

CONS:

~ A bit expensive but I think it has something to do with its location.

~MG! Get a clue on customer service. We were there forever! It felt like an eternity for our server to bring our Ginger ice cream and check. She only checked on us once. We had to keep calling her for refills.

It was worth trying. I am a fan of their Udon soup. Don't go in there if you are in hurry to see a movie. Don't expect excellent service either.

Good Toy Storage

We are using this as toy storage. It is deep enough to accomodate clear bins. It is nice that you can close the door so your house doesn't look cluttered.

My husband is very capable of assembling things together. It took him about three hours to assemble this. He said there were parts that were not labeled.

PHOTOS UPLOADED

As soon as we walked in, we knew we were going to love this place. Very comfortable ambiance and very friendly staff. We were greeted with a smile and got seated promptly.

PROS:

~ The ingredients are fresh and were served hot.

~ Our server, Brent, was very attentive even entertained our little guy.

~ I love the view from this restaurant. Lush landscape and beautiful trees. Just a perfect setting.

~ The tiramisu was phonomenal. Moist and creamy.

~My entree', Cannollis, were delicious. I love cheese, and I was in heaven. It was cheesy alright.

CONS:

~ A bit expensive but I think it is worth every penny.

This is such a lovely Italian Restaurant. It feels good to support local business.
