Do you get the feeling that a lot of real estate agents are running scared.  They are looking at multi marketing or cutting hair for a living. Yes the market is slow in the country.  Real estate prices have been dropping in a lot of parts of the country. Yes Wailea is elegant and offers beautiful weather, beaches and expensive homes.  It does not offer country living with water falls and tropical island beauty. They were talking about how there isn't enough study in but the prolong use of cell phones might be linked to brain cancer.  The Europeans have been publishing articles about the dangers of cell phone use for a long time.

I thought I would post a few pictures of the art and flowers in the Grand Wailea Hotel.  Once in a while I work in the lobby selling the Hoolei Wailea  town-homes. They are right across from the Grand Wailea and if you buy a unit you receive membership in the hotel Kualana club. With membership you get full run of the hotel. Weather-wise it'll remain warm and humid in the islands - the tradewinds have shifted slightly and will be more northerly, bringing increased cloud cover and therefore humidity!

So the Maui's News today reported statics from Maui Association of Realtors on Maui home sales for the first six months of 2008.  Homes prices are down 9% from the same period from last year. The number of residential sales has drastically dropped according to Terry Talmon from the Maui Association Realtors. There has been a consistent slowing of the housing market from three years ago.

I am sitting at the up desk in The shops at Wailea at our main office at The Wailea Group .I look up and it is just pouring rain. It has been really dry for months.  Wailea is actually desert area but with all the irrigation it is always lush and green.  With five world class golf courses they are kept in top shape and looking good it reminds me of sound of music with the rolling green hills. On the Big Island the Hawaiian Volcano is spewing lava. Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano is on the move. The Hawaiian volcano Observatory reported it is flowing from Nov 12th from a new outbreak.  The Halemaumau vent near Kileauea's Summit is spreading ash and levels of sulfur Dioxide. The Volcano gas is called Vog and is a problem for people with Respiratory problems. Lucky for Maui the Vog is headed south west. With the trade winds it is carried in another direction. I guess you could say that real estate is expanding on the Big Island.

So what I keep hearing is that the airfare is way high and travelers are not taking to the skies as they usually do. So this does have a dramatic effect on the tourist industry and will eventually trickle down in resort communities. I do see a ray of hope.
