Maui's First Winter Swells - 09/29/10 04:19 AM
Maui's northshore is experiencing its first winter waves. all I can say is it has been going off. I finally got a session in today. Waves have been overhead and pumping. Last couple days Hookipa Beach has been triple over head, and thumping hard.
My son on a perfect one.
Okay don't leave me out, I love first swell of the year, in fact I am out there again early in the morning.

You might not think so, but far removed from the resort community is "Horse Country". Upcountry Maui offers a variety of areas for horse lovers. Driving around Haiku, Maui this morning I saw a family, with their dog, riding through the pineapple fields. In Olinda you have the polo crowd on Sundays having a whack at it. The Maui News today on the front page stated, that Maui visitor count was up 11.5 percent for July. This is really great news for people in the tourist industry. I think people are settling in, that the economy is what it is, and lets move on with our lives. People start spending money, then maybe we will see some housing starts, which would be great of the construction industry. This will also have a positive effect upon the Maui real estate market. Last Sunday my friend John came in for a visit, he has years of experience windsurfing on Maui. So we headed to Kanaha Beach for the afternoon. John here having fun, laying into it.
