jeremy vandekar: Kicking Aces and Taking Names by Jeremy Vandekar soon to be published - 11/22/11 11:12 AM
Those who have known me for a long time know my middle son Jeremy Vandekar served in the Marines in 2nd Recon serving two tours in Iraq. Whilst there he was very good at sending photos and emails and we posted those here on AR being given much support with people sending support boxes and stuff out to his unit whilst they were deployed.
Well Jeremy has written a book and is in the final stages of getting it printed and distributed on his time in the Marine Corps and you can like his Facebook page named after the book Kicking … (0 comments)

jeremy vandekar: The Iraq movies - 07/10/08 06:24 PM
Here are the movies that Jeremy our son made for each month he was in Iraq, as posted on you tube in chronological order.  Each portrays a month of their deployment, some are longer than others, there is some humor through out but also some typical Marine Corps attitude, a couple of bathroom shots so apologies to the easily offended. All came home safe and sound this deployment.
October, Jeremy got blown up in this movie, the humvee you see damaged was the one he was riding in, however we never found this out till he came home.

jeremy vandekar: Countdown to Coming Home - 07/01/08 10:52 AM

This is the most recent video Jeremy put together. As we waited for them to come home from Iraq, this is how they were filling their time. The first scene is a base and the guard in that tower on the hill top was playing music blasted over loud speakers. He also checked their ids and took requests using a strong telescope. To read Jeremy's comments on his tour and to see photos you can read Iraq Diaries just scroll down through the comments, each email was posted as a comment.

jeremy vandekar: Home Safe and Sound - 05/10/08 02:53 PM
After many delays our son Jeremy arrived home from Iraq. We were unaware till later that evening just how lucky we were to have him home in one piece. Their first mission his humvee hit an IED and miraculously no one was hurt. This is just a short clip of his welcome home. Sorry, as it was late the light was not excellent, but I think you can tell we were pretty excited.
Well we are now home, he is visiting one of his brothers this weekend and will be coming home soon on leave. In the meantime he has begun … (10 comments)

jeremy vandekar: Just a few more days.... - 04/14/08 12:27 PM
As many of you know our son Jeremy is currently serving in Iraq, you can read his emails and see his photos at Iraq Diaries. This was his second tour and although the area he was in is much quieter than when he was there before the stress as a parent was no less. His unit goes out of contact pretty regularly as they embark on a mission. We have no idea of how long he will be gone, where he is, or what he is doing. During his last deployment twelve of his unit gave their lives serving their country, three … (4 comments)

jeremy vandekar: 12 Days of Christmas from Iraq from a US Marine's point of view - 12/16/07 12:09 PM
As many of you know Jeremy our son is currently in Iraq. His emails and photos are posted at Iraq Diaries. But he also loves to make movies and although he cannot post many of these till he returns from Iraq because of security issues he has been inspired to post his latest video made while in the field. Moved by the season and his love for Christmas he got the guys in his platoon to sing the 12 Days of Christmas. Not everyone was as enthusastic as Jeremy as you will see. But a great chance to see the morale … (6 comments)

jeremy vandekar: Prayer before combat... - 11/26/07 06:27 PM

I posted this photo in our blog Iraq Diaries which are emails from our son who is currently in Iraq, but as it is buried in one of the comments I just wanted to repost just this photo as it speaks volumes about the young men who are serving in Iraq.

Jeremy, Malachi Even and Jason Mann prayed before each mission we left. Here we're joined by Steven Kaliszewski and in later days we invited another guy we saw reading a Bible. I also saw from later pictures that people were watching so it's good to bring people together before the Lord, whether … (7 comments)

jeremy vandekar: Aviator sun glasses needed - 11/26/07 03:36 PM

REPUTATION IN my line of work is a huge issue and plays a large role in your successes and position in your platoon/team. For example, if you go to a school to train and cry, complain, or give up then the people who see it remember. Your reputation precedes you and rank, though respected, doesn't mean a thing when you're a solid, hard working individual who goes out looking for initiative.
Why am I telling you this? Well my reputation has been set as well. I have been in this Battalion for a little over 2 years and … (10 comments)

jeremy vandekar: Soccer is a common language - 11/18/07 12:29 PM

As many of you know our son Jeremy is in Iraq. you can read his emails at Iraq Diaries. They see a lot of kids as you may have noticed from his photos. Recently Iraq did really well in an Asian soccer competition and for a brief moment it united the country as you may have seen or read on the news.
Well the kids ask Jeremy if he has any soccer balls.

So Trudy, has decided to collect soccer balls and small pumps to send them over to Jeremy to give out. Used balls are great and many people have some sitting … (9 comments)

Our middle son Jeremy left for Iraq last week, we had the opportunity to see him off. as promised he has written several emails which I offered to share with you here. Getting promoted to Sargent.
With his older brother and Dad. By the way he has a temperature of 101 whilst this was going on...and they leave the next day.
Checking their equipment, Jeremy and his Corpsman Ward, prior to getting on the buses to leave for the airport.
 final goodbye
See you in 7 months,  battalion leaves, there are about 235 guys altogether.

jeremy vandekar: Going back to Iraq - 07/23/07 08:27 AM
Well, we have been hoping he would go on a Marine Expeditionary Unit, or their posting to Iraq would be cancelled but it looks as if our son Jeremy is going back to Iraq sometime in October. Last tour he wrote emails regularly letting us know how it was, hoodwinked us for three months making it sound like summer camp, till we learnt more about the relaity of what they were enduring. Those emails were forwarded to hundreds of people who somehow got connected with him, including churches, NASA scientists, realtor offices, from all places in the country.
Well he is starting … (7 comments)
