places to go: New Restaurant - Dandan - 05/16/17 05:07 PM
New Tredyffrin Easttown Restaurant opens in Devon
Dandan has just opened in the space where Ellas used to be in Devon Square. This restaurant a sister to their Rittenhouse Square location has been opened by Devon natives Kevin and Cat Huang,  in just the last week. For a Tuesday night with no grand opening announced it was busy and Cat told us that at the weekend they had over a hundred people. The space is a great location with a bar and doors in the main area that slide open so on an evening like tonight with temperatures in the 70's it was … (19 comments)

places to go: Sunday is a great day to walk - 05/14/17 06:57 PM
Sunday is a great day for a walk
Yesterday, Saturday, it rained all day. Today the weather started off cool but dry, so I decided to go to my favorite place and go for a walk. Those living in Tredyffrin Easttown have Valley Forge National Park just a few minutes away. There is a wonderful circuit you can walk, goes up and down and it is about 5.5 to 6 miles long. I walk pretty briskly so it took me about 1 1/2 hours. There were lots of people out walking and running today. One Mom and her daughter were running I … (15 comments)

places to go: Like wine? - Winterthur Museum has a great exhibit planned - 03/06/12 06:09 AM
Wine has been a feature within societies for thousands of years, just recently they salvaged some champagne bottles off the ocean floor that were on their way to Rusiia in the 17th century and they were able to work out from which vineyard they had come.

Well that fascination with wine from society to society can be seen in a new exhibit at Winterthur Museum. A recent article in County Lines examines all the features of the exhibit and what will be covered.
It opens April 28 and you can easily plan a visit to Winterthur, tour the grounds … (3 comments)

places to go: Artesano Iron Works in Wayne - 03/01/12 06:34 AM

I have driven past Artesano Iron Works for the past couple of years, always meaning to stop off as this shop just looks so cool from the outside. Well today, I had been out taking some photos for a new rental listing that is coming in Wayne, a 1 bedroom 1 bath condo on the ground floor and was on my way back to the office when I grabbed the opportunity to stop off and see what Artesano Iron Works was all about.
I got to meet Igor Roa, yes that is his name and he is delightful, and is … (0 comments)

places to go: Just too much choice! - 02/13/12 04:56 AM
Whilst I could be talking about the inventory of homes along the Main Line for buyers to consider, actually I am talking about where to go for Valentine's Day with your significant other.

Every village and town along the Main Line outside of Philadelphia is stuffed, literally stuffed with restaurants to go, most of them are good, some are excellent, with appropriate pricing. Most cultural tastes are catered for, there may be a lack of vegan restaurants but you can always find something to eat at either Chinese, or Indian. Whether it is Bryn Mawr, or Exton and all points … (1 comments)

places to go: Ella's Bistro in Wayne - 01/13/12 02:15 AM
Looking for somewhere new to grab a bite, why not try Ella's Bistro in Wayne, right on Sugartown Road in the Acme/Kmart shopping center. As part of the recent development and extension of the shopping center this is a welcome addition.
I stopped by yesterday with a friend for lunch, I was pleased I had booked as the place was packed. It provides a nice alternative to The Paddock of Devon across the road on Lancaster Avenue and is definitely a more upmarket feel with white tablecloths and although I had seen a post about bad service I had no complaints. … (2 comments)

places to go: Main Line restaurants - 11/29/11 05:50 AM
Yesterday I had the chance to eat at two good restaurants on the Main Line, one is a BYOB in Berwyn, being my birthday and my brother being in town he treated me to lunch at Tiramisu, located on the corner of Lancaster Ave and Knox it has quickly become a local favorite with seating hard to come by in the evenings. I know because we have tried to get in recently and been unable to find space. The kitchen is based on Jewish Roman cooking, I say based as it is not a Kosher kitchen with lobster and other shellfish … (3 comments)

places to go: After 20 years...the ultimate cheesesteak or not? - 07/19/11 04:03 AM
After 20 years of living in the Philadelphia suburbs and after several failed attempts I made the journey to Pat and Geno's for a cheesesteak comparison. This was actually a delayed fathers day outing with one of my son's Jeremy and his wife Meg shown here at Geno's.

The whole premise here was to try some different steaks and decide which was best. Jeremy had done this with a friend from 2nd Recon USMC but could not remember what they had decided. I have tried to do this little outing for 20+ years and although I was one block away … (3 comments)

places to go: Easttown Library in the heart of Berwyn - 06/28/11 11:38 PM
Easttown Library sits in the heart of Berwyn. It is a happening place for people of all ages, always busy and the staff all seem happy to be working and willing to help you if you have a problem. Part of the Chester County Library System they are a great addition to the area. But this library is more than just a place for books, there are movies, clubs meeting, rock concerts in the courtyard all sorts of events and things to do.
Speaking of the courtyard, even though it is hot in summer, you can sit quietly and enjoy the … (1 comments)

places to go: Valley Forge Park just minutes from Main Line neighborhoods - 06/20/11 04:02 AM

Walking through Valley Forge National Park you can get some really wonderful views. When these flowers bloom the view will be even better. We always think of the winter spent in Valley Forge, but forget much longer was spent there training the Revolutionary Army.

You can see examples of cabins throughout the park, but it does not really give the sense of what it must have been like, with so many men, women and probably children running around, horses cantering through to give reports to officers and the continual patrols that were mounted to raise food and keep an … (2 comments)

places to go: Valley Forge - 06/18/11 08:23 AM
Valley Forge is minutes from our house. It's beauty often taken for granted, but sometimes an early morning walk just allows you to capture the joy of living so close to something so esoteric, the history, the beauty, the nature.

places to go: Handel's in Berwyn - great ice cream anytime of the day - 05/31/11 09:31 AM

A hot evening, even if it was Memorial Day, the lines were long and deep at Handels in Berwyn. Great ice cream, a great following, it does not seem to matter what the weather is, even on cold wintry days there can be a line. Age does not matter, young or old you will love this ice cream or sherbert or yogurt, there is something for everyone. Their chocolate flavors are always worth trying. People were rushiong to get in line as the lighhts go off to signal closing time, but the staff just kept welcoming people and asking them … (2 comments)

places to go: Devon Horse Show approaches - 05/11/11 03:19 AM
Whilst it is peaceful and quiet right now one of the great events of the Main Line, The Devon Horse Show is just a couple of weeks away beginning on May 26th and going through June 5th. Horses and riders from all over the country converge on Devon, PA for this show many not realizing that the location of the show was originally the polo fields for the Devon Hotel.
The Horse show is attended by everyone from along the Main Line, regardless of interest in horses as there is so much else to see and do. The show raises money for … (1 comments)

places to go: Jenkins Arboretum in Spring - 05/02/11 01:38 AM
Many people livingin our area love gardening and know thew resource that Jenkins Arboretum can be. I know this time of year it can be beautiful with all the azaleas opening up, something the arboretum is known for along with the rhododendrons, which I thought it was a little early for them to be open. But yesterday, not realizing that it was their plant sale I stopped off and was really amazed at how many rhododendrons were opening up as well. Enjoy this short video of the visit.

places to go: Friday evening - somewhere to go over the weekend - 03/25/11 08:58 AM
We had a wonderful evening at The Paddock at Devon on Wednesday with colleagues from our office. Whilst I did not end up with any "great" wines to enjoy they definitely had some good drinkable house wines. Also the ambiance was pretty good, although the acoustics make it a little loud. So if you are looking for somewhere to go over the weekend why not try The Paddock at Devon.

The bar is large and generally well staffed, you can eat at the bar or sit at a table. Generally well attended the noise level can be a little loud … (1 comments)

places to go: Worth considering? - 03/22/11 06:36 AM

You have probably driven past Berwyn Squash and Fitness clubon Cassat Road many times, more than likely you have noticed their solar panels on the roof. But if you are looking for a new sport or somewhere to work out this club is worth considering. Not only does the club have great squash courts, trainers and competitions, but there is also some exercise opportunities for strength training, cardio and stretching as well behind that inscrutable facade. Now if you live locally, it also allows you to be green, in that not only does your club have solar panels, but you can … (1 comments)

places to go: Wine Down Wednesday - 03/09/11 05:39 AM
This past weekend we made a visit to State College to see one of our sons and his wife. As there are a bunch of wineries nearby it seemed a perfect opportunity to go visit one. We decided to visit Seven Mountains Wine Cellars.

We ended up walking into the tasting room

It was a little cold, it snowed as we left, but the room was very inviting with some live music, a fire going and lots of people

I have never heard of Seven Mountains Wine, but they have won many awards as attested to by this table showing … (1 comments)
