things to do: Like wine? - Winterthur Museum has a great exhibit planned - 03/06/12 02:09 PM
Wine has been a feature within societies for thousands of years, just recently they salvaged some champagne bottles off the ocean floor that were on their way to Rusiia in the 17th century and they were able to work out from which vineyard they had come.

Well that fascination with wine from society to society can be seen in a new exhibit at Winterthur Museum. A recent article in County Lines examines all the features of the exhibit and what will be covered.
It opens April 28 and you can easily plan a visit to Winterthur, tour the grounds … (3 comments)

things to do: Old Forge Crossing Condo news - 02/09/12 02:37 PM
For those who live here, the condo association fee at first seems high but it covers lots of things.
Gas for the dryer, gas for cooking, gas for hot water, water, pool fee, tennis courts, exterior maintenance, trash collection, a club house and snow clearing, a host of social activities arranged for homeowners and those who rent here.
What it does not cover is the cost for the sewer, this is billed separately and this year it is $250, bills go out during February and are due March 1st, if you are later than March 10th there is a late fee. … (0 comments)

things to do: Gateway Shops in Devon, a place to get what you need! - 01/31/12 04:01 PM

One of the best stores in the Devon area, especially in Gateway Shops close to Chesterbrook is Trader Joe's, people love our Trader Joe's, it is always busy as is Gateway shopping area which is full of other shops and lots of restaurants.
Staples, TJMaxx are two of the bigger stores, but you can find all sorts of things, we have a cigar shop, beds, vacuum shop, pet store, Five Below and if you need a coffee, close by is a Starbucks in the Barnes & Noble or you can stop by Panera Bread which sits in the corner of … (2 comments)

things to do: Ella's Bistro in Wayne - 01/13/12 10:15 AM
Looking for somewhere new to grab a bite, why not try Ella's Bistro in Wayne, right on Sugartown Road in the Acme/Kmart shopping center. As part of the recent development and extension of the shopping center this is a welcome addition.
I stopped by yesterday with a friend for lunch, I was pleased I had booked as the place was packed. It provides a nice alternative to The Paddock of Devon across the road on Lancaster Avenue and is definitely a more upmarket feel with white tablecloths and although I had seen a post about bad service I had no complaints. … (2 comments)

things to do: Main Line restaurants - 11/29/11 01:50 PM
Yesterday I had the chance to eat at two good restaurants on the Main Line, one is a BYOB in Berwyn, being my birthday and my brother being in town he treated me to lunch at Tiramisu, located on the corner of Lancaster Ave and Knox it has quickly become a local favorite with seating hard to come by in the evenings. I know because we have tried to get in recently and been unable to find space. The kitchen is based on Jewish Roman cooking, I say based as it is not a Kosher kitchen with lobster and other shellfish … (3 comments)

things to do: Ashy's Burgers and Fires Paoli - 09/20/11 10:34 AM

Looking for somewhere to eat in Paoli, Ashy's Burger and Fries is the place, owned by the same owners of the Kabab Cafe in Gateway Shopping Center this is a welcome addition and a step away from the chain burger and fries places. Burgers are made to order so leave some time for yourself as you will be waiting for your order, not long, but long enough for it to cook, and the fries - don't miss those, they are delicious.
I actually steppped away from the traditional burger and went with a falaffel sandwich, well don't think this is … (1 comments)

things to do: Sunday Brunch - 09/19/11 06:40 AM

Sunday brunch is something as Realtors we don't get the opportunity to enjoy too often as most Sundays we will be running around preparing for an open house in the afternoon. But this weekend we have guests visiting from Alberta Canada and after showing them Valley Forge National Park we decided to visit Cafe Winberie on Rt 252 running up to the park right by Chesterbrook and Gateway Shopping Center.
This restaurant has a really nice feel, tiled floors, dark woods and and enough light to allow you to see without blinding you. Brunch was fabulous with lots of great … (2 comments)

things to do: After 20 years...the ultimate cheesesteak or not? - 07/19/11 11:03 AM
After 20 years of living in the Philadelphia suburbs and after several failed attempts I made the journey to Pat and Geno's for a cheesesteak comparison. This was actually a delayed fathers day outing with one of my son's Jeremy and his wife Meg shown here at Geno's.

The whole premise here was to try some different steaks and decide which was best. Jeremy had done this with a friend from 2nd Recon USMC but could not remember what they had decided. I have tried to do this little outing for 20+ years and although I was one block away … (3 comments)

things to do: Easttown Library in the heart of Berwyn - 06/29/11 06:38 AM
Easttown Library sits in the heart of Berwyn. It is a happening place for people of all ages, always busy and the staff all seem happy to be working and willing to help you if you have a problem. Part of the Chester County Library System they are a great addition to the area. But this library is more than just a place for books, there are movies, clubs meeting, rock concerts in the courtyard all sorts of events and things to do.
Speaking of the courtyard, even though it is hot in summer, you can sit quietly and enjoy the … (1 comments)

things to do: Valley Forge Park just minutes from Main Line neighborhoods - 06/20/11 11:02 AM

Walking through Valley Forge National Park you can get some really wonderful views. When these flowers bloom the view will be even better. We always think of the winter spent in Valley Forge, but forget much longer was spent there training the Revolutionary Army.

You can see examples of cabins throughout the park, but it does not really give the sense of what it must have been like, with so many men, women and probably children running around, horses cantering through to give reports to officers and the continual patrols that were mounted to raise food and keep an … (2 comments)

things to do: Valley Forge - 06/18/11 03:23 PM
Valley Forge is minutes from our house. It's beauty often taken for granted, but sometimes an early morning walk just allows you to capture the joy of living so close to something so esoteric, the history, the beauty, the nature.

things to do: Pimm's ahhhh - 06/15/11 05:09 PM
A few weeks ago in Wine down Wednesday I mentioned Pimm's. I grew up in England as many of you know from the weird way I talk. My parents always enjoyed Pimm's and we as kids were allowed a taste. What is Pimm's?

Good question, whilst it is not a wine it is a closely guarded secret, and what you can buy now in the liquor store is Pimm's No 1 Cup. Which if you are the questioning sort leads you to ask are there other cups? Yes, there was but alas no more to my knowledge. When I grew … (3 comments)

things to do: Handel's in Berwyn - great ice cream anytime of the day - 05/31/11 04:31 PM

A hot evening, even if it was Memorial Day, the lines were long and deep at Handels in Berwyn. Great ice cream, a great following, it does not seem to matter what the weather is, even on cold wintry days there can be a line. Age does not matter, young or old you will love this ice cream or sherbert or yogurt, there is something for everyone. Their chocolate flavors are always worth trying. People were rushiong to get in line as the lighhts go off to signal closing time, but the staff just kept welcoming people and asking them … (2 comments)

things to do: Things to do in and around Berwyn PA this weekend - 05/20/11 05:17 PM
Like yard sales, take your pick among all the other great things to do in and around Berwyn PA this weekend. All week everywhere I have been, in almost every development there are yard sale posters and signs. If you are looking for a bargain or a possible find you can show on Antiques Roadshow this is the weekend to go browsing among the collectibles and treasures in everybody's yard.
We love yard sales, you can approach them with specific things that you are looking for or just go on a whim, but they are fascinating from the objects to the people, both … (0 comments)

things to do: Devon Horse Show approaches - 05/11/11 10:19 AM
Whilst it is peaceful and quiet right now one of the great events of the Main Line, The Devon Horse Show is just a couple of weeks away beginning on May 26th and going through June 5th. Horses and riders from all over the country converge on Devon, PA for this show many not realizing that the location of the show was originally the polo fields for the Devon Hotel.
The Horse show is attended by everyone from along the Main Line, regardless of interest in horses as there is so much else to see and do. The show raises money for … (1 comments)

things to do: Jenkins Arboretum in Spring - 05/02/11 08:38 AM
Many people livingin our area love gardening and know thew resource that Jenkins Arboretum can be. I know this time of year it can be beautiful with all the azaleas opening up, something the arboretum is known for along with the rhododendrons, which I thought it was a little early for them to be open. But yesterday, not realizing that it was their plant sale I stopped off and was really amazed at how many rhododendrons were opening up as well. Enjoy this short video of the visit.

things to do: Friday evening - somewhere to go over the weekend - 03/25/11 03:58 PM
We had a wonderful evening at The Paddock at Devon on Wednesday with colleagues from our office. Whilst I did not end up with any "great" wines to enjoy they definitely had some good drinkable house wines. Also the ambiance was pretty good, although the acoustics make it a little loud. So if you are looking for somewhere to go over the weekend why not try The Paddock at Devon.

The bar is large and generally well staffed, you can eat at the bar or sit at a table. Generally well attended the noise level can be a little loud … (1 comments)
