You may've just heard that President Obama signed the extension of the $8,000 tax credit into law.  There have been some other meaningful changes, including offering the tax credit to repeat buyers (up to $6,500) who have lived in their home at least 5 years, and an increase to the income limits.  Rather than regurgitating the million other blog posts and articles about the extension, here's a link to an article that explains it all.

The $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit has been a big help to homebuyers this year.  Although I don't recommend buying a home because of the tax credit, I think its a good idea to put the gas on your purchase if you've seriously been contemplating a home purchase independent of the tax credit.  The last day you can buy a home (i.e.,  keys in your hand, not just putting a contract on a home) is November 30th .  Assuming it takes 30-45 days to close on the mortgage financing, you need to have a property under contract by mid-October, which … (6 comments)
