life in palos verdes: At the Beach with My Grands for Mother's Day - 05/11/14 11:29 AM

Mother's Day was Southern California perfect with plenty of sunshine and big, noisy waves rolling in at the beach.  We could hear the waves crashing as we walked down the trail to the beach. My two-year old granddaughter wanted the waves to stop, so a short science lesson was in order.  :)
It was a lovely day and I hope every mother enjoyed her day as much as I did mine.

life in palos verdes: Why I Chose Palos Verdes as Home 25 Years Ago - 12/02/13 01:00 AM

It was late December 1988.  My family and I lived in a gorgeous 1920s home in the Old Northeast section of St. Petersburg, Florida.  My four children were happily ensconced in a top rated private school. I was one of the founding member of the Ballet Society, and life was humming along in the happy lane.  Naturally, it was time to move.
I was a reluctant house hunter. I thought Los Angeles was a fun place to visit, not to live.  As the jet approached the Los Angeles area the night I arrived, I was struck by how immense … (12 comments)

life in palos verdes: Luxuries of Life in Palos Verdes - 03/27/13 02:04 AM

Whenever people ask me where I’m from, when traveling outside California, they most often have a quizzical look on their face after my reply. I know what’s coming next. “Palos Verdes? Where’s that?”
Of course, if I want to avoid the long explanation I simply say, “Los Angeles,” and leave it at that. The truth is, the anonymity of the locale is a luxurious aspect of life on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This is not Hollywood, nor Beverly Hills or even Malibu. The world has heard of those glittering places; not so Palos Verdes.
The majesty and length of … (8 comments)

life in palos verdes: Palos Verdes Buyer's Question: Where Can I Take My Kids to the Beach? - 08/09/10 12:01 PM
Yesterday a prospective buyer asked, "Do you have sandy beaches in this area?"  It was a fair question since we were looking at properties in Palos Verdes, an area famous for its breathtaking beauty and majestic cliffs towering above the blue Pacific, but not noted for sand filled beaches.

My resounding reply was, "Of course we do!"  The Beach Cities offers some of the best beaches in Southern California.  Torrance Beach is a local favorite and RAT Beach is a delightful beach at the end of Torrance Beach with access from Malaga Cove.

It's summer and beach questions … (3 comments)

life in palos verdes: Oh, the Places We Go and the People, Pets and Critters We Meet - 10/20/09 04:12 AM
I'm never bored in this business.  Selling houses, income property, lots and land for a living is full of fun, challenges and sometimes ever a little scary.  Situations worthy of sitcoms and and award winning dramas occur like clockwork in the emotionally charged world of real estate. Let's face it, we deal with a person's habitat, finances and personal life during a time of mass upheaval.  These stories cannot be written, they must unfold.
Last week fleas flocked to my feet upon entering a new bank-owned listing; sometimes it's not a good idea to be the first agent to preview a property--you … (10 comments)

life in palos verdes: Mother Teresa's Take on Life - 10/06/09 12:27 PM
Here's a true confession:  I shop for cards at the carwash.  Last Saturday it was particularly busy so I had plenty of time to wile away while I waited for my Jag to be washed and polished.
My aunt will be celebrating her 90th later this month, and I read through a stack of cards before I found one that summed up her long life and the way she lived and still lives it.  Mother Teresa said it best:
"Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.

life in palos verdes: 1st Q Down, 3 To Go - Norma Toering REMAX Palos Verdes - 03/31/09 05:21 PM
The 1st quarter of 2009 ends in a couple of hours.  As I look back over my shoulder I'm wearing a big grin of fulfillment.  Oh sure, I did not make as much money as I would like, and yes, I worked harder and longer than I thought I would at this time of my life, but I also had a wonderful three months.
For the first time in my life, I took my vacation first.  That's right I slipped out the country the beginning of January and traveled to Spain and then on to Egypt.  I landed back in Los Angeles in … (4 comments)
