You can’t pay attention to motivational talk without eventually hearing the analogy of the crab. The idea is that the people around us with negative vibes can be a lot like a bucket of crabs. Each time a crab makes his way to the top and is about to climb out, the other crabs down below grab and pull him back in. This ‘crab mentality’ causes groups of people to bring down another in the group based on feelings of envy, competitive nature or a belief that following the crowd is best.
