Its daylight savings day today and besides trying to adapt to the time change, which I can say messed me up this morning there are other things you need to do today.
A seemingly smal items in the home tht often times gets overlooked until its too late: Carbon Monoxide detectors and Smoke alarms.  I recommend that everyone changes batteries in their Smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors today and test them to make sure they are working.  A good routine to follow every year like clockwork.

Post Tip: Look at all exterior wall outlets by unscrewing the plates and peaking underneath.If there's no insulation, they're likely letting in cold air. Head to the hardware store and pick up foam insulation specially made for outlets. Its a helpful tool available for free to you.  It is based on National Averages but will get pretty close.  For the NYC area I tend to use the higher numbers and they get close.This tool provides a list of the estimated costs to upgrade or replace the majorsystems and components in a typical home and provides general life-expectancies of those systems.

A quick tip that may help add some life to your cooking appliance. PILLAR TO POST TIP: Most stoves made in the last 15 years break down too soon due to the control panel. Why?     Because the panel is behind the back burners which causes it to overheat. This is a very useful link that I think all current and future home owners should see.  It is also very useful info for all realtors out there so they can identify a potential trouble spot in a home.
The panels mentioned on the page pose a safety issue and will need to be adressed in some way.  All home inspectors will mention these panels and the potential safety issues surrounding them, so why not be prepared?
