Driving on the beach at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore will cost $50 for a seven-day permit and a $120 for a year.
The fees were announced Wednesday as the National Park Service prepares to put new rules for beach driving into effect Feb. 15.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach closures will begin this month for the 2009 nesting season for the Piping Plovers. The closures are subject to change at any time depending on when and where the birds decide to build a nest. You can get updates on beach closures from the National Park Service.

The current appeal to Washington to overturn the current ORV consent decree was denied. It looks like the parties will have to get back to the table to continue the negotiations to come up a permanent ORV management plan. It looks like the negotiating committee for the ORV Beach Access Management Plan is getting back to the table this week. The 2 sides to the long battle over who will manage the Cape Hatteras National Seashore have once again decided that more talks are needed to try and come up with a solution to the current court mandated access plan. The meeting will held in Avon today and while most of the locals here on the Outer Banks pray that our local representatives can work their magic to get the current plan overturned, many are not that optimistic.

The beaches of the Outer Banks has once again made the famous Dr. Beach Top 10 Beaches in the USA. Last year Ocracoke beach claimed the #1 on the list. Once a beach has made it to #1 it is then taken out of the running. So this year it was Cape Hatteras National Seashore beach that made the list at #8.

Apr. 16: The parties to a lawsuit over ORV use on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore filed a settlement today in U.S. District Court in Raleigh. The settlement was filed in the form of a consent decree that now goes before U.S. District Court Judge Terrence W.
