A bill that would change funding for the planned Mid-Currituck Bridge and Cape Fear Skyway may be giving proponents the jitters, but even if it passes, the projects are not necessarily doomed.
An amendment to House Bill 10 would lift dedicated “gap” funds and place the bridges in the funding mix to compete with other projects.tate Rep. Bob Steinburg, R-Chowan, said he is confident the 7-mile bridge between the Currituck mainland and Corolla will survive the legislative churn.

The Virginia Pilot reported today that construction on the Mid-County Currituck Bridge is scheduled to begin in February or March next year. While there are still many details to work out it is seems that after 20 years the bridge will finally get built. Once completed, scheduled for 2013, the bridge will help ease the summer traffic coming onto the Outer Banks for everyone. Those tourists traveling to Corolla will save at least an hour of travel time if not more by using the bridge. For many it will be a huge sigh of relief when this bridge is finally done.

This week North Carolina state officials finally signed an agreement with the with private contractors hired to construct the Mid-County Currituck Bridge. I was a major step in the right direction to get the project underway. Scheduled construction for the bridge is for fall 2010 and completion by 2013. Many local residents and millions of tourists will be thrilled when the bridge is finally complete. It is estimated that those traveling to the northern Outer Banks towns of Duck, Corolla and the 4-wheel drive area will save as much as one to two hours off their trip. mid county bridge: Currituck Mid County Bridge Down To 3 Options - 10/24/08 02:46 AM
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority put out a press release this week about the 3 options they have decicded to go with for the proposed new bridge. The options include a "No Bridge" option that was just added recently. That's right they are now  considering to not build the bridge and just do road improvements from the Wright Memorial Bridge all the way to Corolla. I can tell you that option is not going over well with the locals and local government. For anyone interested in the Currituck Mid County Bridge the NC Turnpike Authority has released a 48 page document detailing the scope of the bridge project. It spells out just about everything about the project from start to finish. I know many tourists who travel to Duck and Corolla are going to thrilled when this bridge is finally completed.

It looks like the wait will be over in 2013 when the first cars are able to make the trip across the Mid County Currituck Bridge that will connect mainland Currituck to Corolla. This will dramatically reduce the travel time , some predict up to 2 hours, for tourists that for years had to wait in miles of traffic to get to Southern Shores, Duck, & Corolla as they made their way to the Outer Banks for vacation.
