The Outer Banks real estate market continues to build on the momentum of 2011 with 2012 off to a roaring start!! The numbers are in for January and what a January it was!! Prices continue to rise, up 3.5% from 2011's 5.5% increase, Sales were up 17% from January 2011 and that's not even the most impressive stat. Driving on the beach at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore will cost $50 for a seven-day permit and a $120 for a year.

Beach nourishment will begin in Nags Head on June 4th according to the town website. The town has posted a time schedule so residents and visitors will know when particular areas will be affected. This will be a 24hr/7 day a week process and will run from June-October 2011. There will be some temporary beach closures while equipment is being moved so tourists are advised to contact their rental agency or the Town of Nags Head for the most up to date nourishment activity. It has been a long time coming but finally the Town of Nags Head has received the go ahead to start their beach nourishment project. Beach nourishment has been a controversial topic on the Outer Banks for the last 15yrs. The project will begin in June and start in South Nags Head, an area that has seen the worst beach erosion over the last 2 decades, and will span 10 miles. Only time will tell if it was worth it or not.

According to an article in the Virgina Pilot onlinethe Outer Banks' only Walmart store is still slated to be upgraded to a Supercenter, but it could be this time next year before its completed. The expansion will be take place in an area behind the store while the interior will be totally redesigned. The initial expansion was scheduled for this spring but a longer planning process was needed. Construction is slated to begin after the summer tourist season is over and be ready by spring 2012.
