When a homeowner goes the extra mile to install high-quality items on his home, you expect the items to last.  This 9 year old 3,000+ square foot ranch had a mostly brick exterior with steel siding, commercial grade gutters, and a 50-year asphalt composite shingle roof.  With the sun's reflection, you can easily see the hail damage where the granules are totally gone exposing the fiberglass backing.  He spent all this money on a high-end roof and 1 hail storm ruins the roof.  I think the manufacturer has some explaining to do.  If hail can easily damage these expensive shingles, then there's no point in installing asphalt composite shingles in the Omaha Metro.  With all of the hail we get, it doesn't matter how top-of-the-line you go, you're still going to be replacing your asphalt composite roof.

If you're building a custom built home in the Omaha Metro, I'd strongly recommend a standing seam metal roof or equivalent, but stay clear of asphalt composite roofs!
