jenny kotulak: Meet My New Clients Bill & Sue - 11/25/11 06:13 PM
Bill and Sue** are a typical young Oakville couple. They both have great but demanding jobs and they love to spend their spare time enjoying Oakville restaurants and theatre with their friends. When they bought their fixer upper home, Bill and Sue had some great renovation ideas, but Bill just didn't have the time necessary to complete all of their "projects." Sue is becoming a tad impatient and she is tired of waiting for Bill to repair even the simplest tasks like the leaky taps. Sue has the bug. She knows there are some great new homes being built in Oakville with all the bells and

jenny kotulak: Oakville, Ontario Real Estate - A Great Community To Live, Work & Play - 11/21/11 05:39 PM
Oakville, Ontario is located in an enviable geographic position. Sitting on the shores of Lake Ontario, and centrally located between the large cities of Toronto and Hamilton, the Town of Oakville with a population of approximately 175,000 still retains a small town community feel. The GO commuter trains are full every morning with Oakville residents travelling to their jobs in downtown Toronto. Luckily, the Town of Oakville has a number of large employers, allowing many residents to live and work in close proximity. Here is a list of Oakville's Top Ten Employers 1. Halton District School Board - 4000 2. Ford Motor

jenny kotulak: Are You LinkedIn? Just Call Me #34,787,990 - 05/24/11 10:23 PM
If you are a blogger or a social marketer you are aware of LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a professional social media platform. In March 2011, LinkedIn's membership grew to 100,000,000 and they claim that membership expands by 1 Million each week. So where do you rank in the LinkedIn membership stats? If you are curious you can click on your Profile page and go to View Profile. Look up at the URL in your browser and there will be some words and then a number. That's you. I am ranked at 34,787,990. Certainly not first to jump on this social platform bandwagon but well

jenny kotulak: There's Nothing Wrong With Being Bold - Is There? - 05/21/11 11:44 PM
When you think of the word jack o'lantern what colour comes to mind? If you're thinking orange, you are correct. We've been living in our new house now for almost 4 months and I'm beginning to crave a little more colour on our white walls. In the past, I'd say my colour scheme has always been quite conservative. I've always leaned towards neutrals with a touch of blue for bathrooms. In our new house we have a high wall in the stairwell leading to the second floor. There are two windows in this area so it is quite bright. I had

jenny kotulak: Welcome Or Not - Walmart Is Coming To Stratford - 05/17/11 11:13 PM
The 10 year expensive battle is over. Walmart is coming to Stratford, Ontario. Not in its' desired location or original size but none the less ground will be broken in 2012 to pave the way for the mega box store to put down roots in the Stratford community. The city has spent $1.4 million dollars on legal fees alone in their fight to keep the retail giant at bay with their efforts to preserve the downtown retail businesses. Many downtown merchants are concerned that Walmart's arrival will put additional stress on businesses already facing challenges. The new location, still in the City's east end is

jenny kotulak: Star Sighting In Stratford? - No It Was Just The Phantom Of The Oprah - 05/16/11 10:22 PM
It was all over Twitter and Facebook on Friday. Oprah Winfrey was attending the Grapes of Wrath at the Shakespeare Festival here in Stratford, Ontario. Could it be true? Nope-rah. Well then how could this false rumour get started? It seems someone tweeted that there was a film crew from Oprah's TV network OWN at the Rheo Thompson Candies store in downtown Stratford. That part was true. There was a taping going on for the TV show "Fearless in the Kitchen" with chef and cookbook writer/television personality Christine Cushing. Fans of Oprah gathered in front of the Avon Theatre having been "tipped"

jenny kotulak: Go Daddy - Go - Go - Daddy Be Gone - 05/11/11 10:24 PM
I registered 3 domain names with Go Daddy a couple of years ago and I'm kicking myself for it now. I've puchased most of my domain names through my Point 2 Agent website and have them automatically pointed to my homepage or a separate page I create. When I moved a couple of months ago I had to change internet service providers so I lost my email addresses. That in itself was very frustrating and I highly advise that you use an email address that is not tied to a service provider that you may not always have permanent access to.

jenny kotulak: The Blogstar & The Rockstar - It's All In The Name - 05/08/11 10:53 PM
There's a blogger here at Active Rain that I have to give a shout out to today because he seems to be everywhere these days. Rob Thomas comments on a lot of blog posts of the people that I also follow. He spends a lot of time leaving comments and in return Rob receives a lot of comments on his posts. I've read some of Rob's recent posts and he seems to regularly garner 20 - 40 comments. I've noticed lately that comments are way down, especially for featured posts. In the past it was common for features to receive 100

jenny kotulak: Sweet Soft Sounds Or Heavy Noise - What Do You Wake Up To? - 05/07/11 09:09 PM
Who do you wake up to in the morning? Who do you turn on to help you rise and shine? Do you like soft sweet sounds whispering in your ears or loud, heavy noise? Since we moved to our new community a few months ago I've been turning onChymfm to wake up to. It's a lite rock station in nearby Kitchener-Waterloo. It offers a nice mix of music that's easy on the still sleepy ears. By the time afternoon rolls around if I'm at home I'm listening to Adele do her shift at the station. One of the reasons I really

jenny kotulak: From Fishbowl To Mudbowl - But There's No Going Back - 05/04/11 09:19 PM
I have been asked many times over the last few months what made us up and relocate to a very small town. There are many reasons, one being the fact that I am now living close to my parents and some of my siblings. One of the other reasons I tell people is that I saw an empty lot that "spoke to me". It is hard to explain but when I saw Lot 13 backing onto a farmer's field with two existing mature trees on the property, it just felt right. Never in a million years would I have ever thought

jenny kotulak: How's The Market? - Thank You For Asking - 05/03/11 10:05 PM
As a REALTOR® I often get asked the following questions. "How's the market?" "Is it a good time to buy?" " When's the best time to sell?" Those are not easy questions to answer with a short response. I often respond by saying " If only I had that crystal ball". But then my 22 years of working every different type of market there is, and many times over, kicks in and rather than generalizing I ask what specific information they require for their needs. I am going to try to give the Cole's Notes version of my answers to these

jenny kotulak: May Day - May Day - Let The Blogging Begin - 05/01/11 08:59 PM
Today is May 1st. May Day. The term "May Day" has a few meanings. May Day - May Day is a well known international distress signal. May Day is also a day of celebration in many Countries. I remember as a child in my primary years at school we would all go outside and dance around the flagpole on May 1st. I don't know if that happens anymore in Canada. I don't remember my kids ever doing it at their school. For me May 1st means my first post as part of the 31 Day Challenge for May 2011 at Active Rain. So

jenny kotulak: Happy Easter - And Here's To New Traditions - 04/24/11 01:23 PM
This is the first Easter in my new home and community. Yesterday I decided to check out some of the local shops in preparation for Easter dinner for my family. The majority of groceries I needed were going to be picked up at the local Zehrs store in Stratford. But on the way to Stratford I just had to stop in at my favourite stores in the village of Shakespeare. The well known Best Little Pork Shoppe has just reopened for the season. I left there with some wonderful smoked chops and the best peameal bacon I've ever tasted. Some home

jenny kotulak: Wow - Good Things Happen When You Take A Break - 04/22/11 09:43 PM
I have been away from AR more than I've been around, the last couple of months. Just too much going on with a major move and all that comes with it. Now that I look back though, the physical move was the easiest part of the transition. The biggest challenge has been to update all of my social networking sites with my new contact information. I had no idea since I jumped on the blogging and social media/networking bandwagon a couple of years ago just how much info I had out there in the Google Universe. My first project was to build a new real

jenny kotulak: A Month In The Life Of ------- Me - 03/04/11 11:54 PM
I'm so excited, I don't know where to begin. My life this past four weeks has been anything but calm. My mind has formulated so many blog posts but none got written. And life doesn't slow down in order for you to get caught up on those posts. I feel so guilty that I've neglected Active Rain. Ditto for my photography site Flickr. But I've been experiencing major technical difficulties. My one year old laptop died and went in for repairs. That's a whole blog in itself but I will leave that for another day. I picked it up yesterday after

jenny kotulak: Speechless Sunday - On The Waterfront - 01/23/11 12:52 PM
It was really, really cold by Lake Ontario yesterday. The temperature was minus 10 C. and that wasn't taking the wind chill into consideration. I love taking long walks with my dog but this was the first day I was practically running back to the car after about 5 minutes of being exposed to the elements along the lakeshore. I was surprised that there were quite a few people ice skating on a rink beside where we were walking. They were very brave souls. Here in Oakville we are not used to these frigid temperatures. Today my computer tells me

jenny kotulak: Resolutions - I've Had A Few - But Then Again - Too Few To Mention - 01/02/11 06:00 PM
The Facebook comment came across loud and clear yesterday from a friend. "Have you made your New Year's resolutions ?" Oh no, it was January 1st. Was it too late to make one? Are you supposed to make them on December 31 and do they still count if you make them once the clock kicks over to a new year? I hadn't really thought about it much. Actually I hadn't thought about new year's resolutions at all. I guess if I was to make one (or two) it would be to stop being such a procrastinator and to become a tad

jenny kotulak: Change Is Inevitable - Change Is Good - 12/16/10 08:52 PM
Karen Fiddler's featured post "The Parade Passed Him By - The Death Of A Salesman" seemed to really strike a chord with fellow bloggers as she has already received well over 100 comments on it. I think all of us can relate to her story and know someone exactly like the agent she speaks of. Kudos to Karen for taking the time to share a cup of coffee and give some timely advice to an older agent who has been in the business for many a year but is having a hard time finding business although other agents in his community are doing well. This agent misses the

jenny kotulak: John Lennon - Just Imagine - 12/08/10 11:32 AM
I can still remember clearly the day John Lennon died. I could have chosen the words murdered, executed or gunned down but the media will use those words enough today, the 30th anniversary of his passing. I think we all have memories of where we were when we heard the news about the death of a famous or prolific person. I was sitting in a classroom at school when the principal gave us the news that John F. Kennedy had died. I won't ever forget that even though I was only a 7 year old Canadian and he wasn't even our President. August 16th, 1977 is
