jenny kotulak blog: Name That Photo - If You Can - 05/31/11 11:15 PM
It's been awhile since I've posted to the Name That Photo group created a couple of years ago by Liz Moras. It is a fun group to post to, one where you submit a photo with or without a clue and let AR members guess what the subject in the photo is. Sometimes the subject in the photo is relatively easy to determine but more often than not, there is some pretty wild guessing going on. I was out an about yesterday and noticed this reflection on the water and it made me think of the Name That Photo group. We all know

jenny kotulak blog: Stratford Heritage Weekend - June 3 - 5, 2011 - 05/30/11 12:02 AM
The City of Stratford, Ontario will be hosting their annual Heritage Weekend on June 3rd - 5th. I have already checked off the events that I'm interested in attending. I am a history nut so that's part of the reason that so many of the weekend events appeal to me. Here is how the www.welcometostratford.com website describes the weekend festiviities. "Come celebrate the rich heritage of Stratford, St. Marys and Shakespeare on June 3-5 at the Stratford Spring Heritage Weekend with an antiques fair; special guided walks of antique shops and carriage tours of Stratford's heritage district; St. Marys "Once Upon

jenny kotulak blog: The Dog Ate My Blog - And I Lost 3000 Points - 05/28/11 11:37 PM
OK well my dog didn't really eat my blog, but my brand new Playbook did. I was doing so well with the 31 days of May Blogging Challenge and hadn't missed a day yet. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. My husband has been working in Toronto for the last few days so I had the opportunity to spend the night at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel with him last night. I didn't arrive until after 9:00 p.m. and realized I hadn't written my daily post yet, so I sat down to write a little ditty. What? The

jenny kotulak blog: Girls Just Want To Have Fun - And All For A Good Cause - 11/23/10 11:47 PM
One of my colleagues sent me this photo today with the following message. "Damn!!! We look HOT!" The photo was taken by our wonderful male server at our Board's President's Gala For Charity. All proceeds from the event went to support well known Habitat For Humanity. It was an amazing evening with a dinner dance, silent auction and casino tables. Our president Jeff Mahannah looked quite dashing in his tux. This was a huge event for our Board with over 200 attendees. I was lucky to work with a great team of helpers on the gala committee. We even had

jenny kotulak blog: I Received A Visit From 007 - Thanks James - 10/30/10 12:32 AM
Last night 007 dropped by to comment on my blog post. Not once, but twice. Why you ask? Well I'd like to think that the first time he dropped by was because he finds me (or my blog posts)to be mysterious, sexy, intellectual, stimulating, thought provoking, you know, all of the things you associate with 007. When James stopped by for the second time he revealed the real reason. Yes, he had totally enjoyed my post and he was back with another comment. One that was going to take him to new heights. James 007 a.k.a Jim Hale from Eugene, Oregon had just

jenny kotulak blog: Wordless Wednesday - Well Bearly A Word - 10/28/10 12:14 AM
Last weekend I visited Parc Omega in Montebello, Quebec. I was totally amazed by the number of different species of animals we saw as we drove through the park. Many roamed freely, saddling up to the slow moving vehicles looking for handouts of carrots and other good eats. Some animals were safely enclosed in fenced areas and people were to remain in the safe confines of their vehicles. The subject of some of my favourite photos is the big guy below. What a story he had to tell. Oh, here we go again. Another carload of curiousity seekers. Can't a guy get any rest.

jenny kotulak blog: Wordless Wednesday - From A Bird's Eye View - 10/20/10 07:15 PM
Sometimes we just have to remove ourselves from a situation at hand and see it from a different perspective. I was driving down a country road just on the outskirts of town the other day and saw this handsome red tail hawk perched high on a wire above a farmer's field. He was looking for dinner and he had a great vantage point to spot any little critters in the field that looked tempting. As I watched, he pounced straight down into a ditch and remained there for a minute or two. I began to wonder if he was going to

jenny kotulak blog: A Very Refreshing Speaker And Not A Real Estate Guru - But Very Relevant - 10/03/10 12:30 AM
I always say if I come away from a seminar with one tidbit of information that I can use in my business or my everyday life then it was worth attending. This week I was fortunate to have the opportunity to hear Ross Shafer speak at our RE/MAX Fall Connect session in Toronto. Ross is one of those dynamic speakers who you could listen to all day long. I'm not going to go into his bio here as you can check it out on his website. Some of you may recognize his name from his late night television days. I just want to

jenny kotulak blog: Social Media - Social Networking - Social Marketing - Which Class Did I Sign Up For Again? - 09/25/10 01:55 PM
Yes, the word social is used in a multitude of different ways these days. I recently signed up for a continuing education course at our local community college. The course subject is Social Marketing and Public Relations. What I have learned so far is that the topic of Social Marketing is a much broader subject than I had even considered. One of our assignments was to check out some definitions, Social Marketing being one of them. The other 3 homework definitions were: What is Public Relations? What is Community mobilization? What is Community organizing? After discussing the definition in class for

jenny kotulak blog: Name That Photo - Monday Morning Mystery - 09/20/10 11:33 AM
It's been awhile since I have submitted a photo to the Name That Photo group. When I snapped this photo this past weekend I thought it would make a great entry. This photo is an extreme closeup of the subject in question. I'm not going to give any clues up front as I want some pie in the sky guesses. What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you look at this photo? Who knows, your thought may be the correct answer. Give it your best guess and I will come back later with a clue or two.

jenny kotulak blog: When A REALTOR® Moves - Do They Take Their Own Advice? - 09/09/10 09:57 PM
Being real estate professionals we know what needs to be done to a house to make it more marketable. Right? We have all the neighbourhood comparables at our fingertips. We are constantly giving advice to others about pricing a home to sell for the most amount of money in the least amount of time. Ultimately the market dictates what our home will sell for. Why is it then that so many real estate professionals don't take their own advice and think that their home is worth more than it really is? I recently sold my home. It took me 3 weeks to

jenny kotulak blog: Flipping Houses - It's Not For The Faint Of Heart - 08/14/10 02:06 PM
I read a great post today from fellow blogger Karen Fiddler from Viejo, California on the topic of flipping houses and whether house flippers deserve a profit. Karen works in a marketplace in the United States that is quite different from here in Ontario. Short sales is not a term used here and we rarely see foreclosures. Properties here that end up back in the hands of a lending institution due to mortgage default are deemed to be Power of Sales. I wrote the following post on Power of Sales to explain how they work and to let people know that if you think you are

jenny kotulak blog: I Used My Peter Pointer Today - Have You Used Yours Lately? - 08/12/10 12:12 AM
How many times as a kid were you told not to point? "It's rude to point, my mom would say". On the other hand there is a nursery rhyme called Peter Pointer. I was driving on the highway today and ended up using my left Peter Pointer. ( I am left handed, after all). Even nursery rhymes are geared towards righties. No I didn't use my middle finger ( I mean Tony Tall) I could see that the left (passing) lane was moving very slowly. There was one vehicle at the head of the pack holding everyone up. I ended

jenny kotulak blog: Moose Monday - I Found The Real Deal In Algonquin Park - 08/09/10 11:58 PM
I'm always pleased when I have some moose artifact photo to post to the Moose Monday group here on Active Rain. I have mentioned a few times before that living in the Greater Toronto Area does not afford the opportunity of spotting real live moose strolling down the streets or through backyards like my blogging buddies in Montana and Alaska. Last week I had the opportunity to take a few days vacation and ended up driving through the enormously scenic Algonquin Provincial Park in Northern Ontario. A stop at the visitor's information centre and museum allowed me to get some nice photos

jenny kotulak blog: Speechless Sunday - A Carload Of Curb Appeal - 08/01/10 11:35 PM
Curb appeal can be created many different ways. It is so easy to create instant results to the exterior of a home by adding some seasonal flowers to some urns, window boxes or containers. I saw this "planter" this weekend while driving through a small town in Ontario. I can't say that I get it but it certainly is a conversation piece.

jenny kotulak blog: Moose Monday - If Partridge's Can Have A Bus - So Can Moose - 07/26/10 12:46 PM
I am dating myself by revealing that I used to watch the Partridge Family when I was a kid. When I saw Danny Bonaduce on the Joy Behar show last week, I realized just how "grown up" we both are now. When I was out moose hunting the other day I spotted the moost interesting bus parked beside Mirror Interiors in Mississauga. It brought to mind the old Partridge Family bus that the group used to travel in from gig to gig. This moose bus is used for a different kind of gig but it certainly does stand out in a crowd. jenny kotulak blog: What To Wear To A 35th Year High School Reunion? It Doesn't Matter - Just Show Up - 07/20/10 12:32 PM
A couple of months ago I wrote the following post about what to wear to a 35th high school reunion. I sat on the planning committee for almost two years for my high school graduating class reunion and when I wrote the post it was a week prior to the big weekend of events and I still had not decided what to wear. I did eventually find an outfit and I was off to the races. Well in my case it was a walk. We had planned a funfilled weekend as many of our classmates were attending from out of town, out of Province

jenny kotulak blog: Location, Location, Location ? Or Location, Price, Condition ? - Which Is It? - 07/03/10 12:09 AM
We all know the famous Location, Location, Location line when it comes to real estate. It is a well known fact that homes located in inferior locations do not sell as fast or for as much money as those in a prime, sought after neighbourhood, or a desirable lot on a ravine, greenspace, etc. We have also heard the phrase "buy a smaller home in a better neighbourhood, rather than the biggest home in a less desirable neighbourhood." And how about "don't overimprove your property for the neighbourhood?" All sound advice right? I think so, but there has been a shift over the years. Today's
