oakville: Oakville, Ontario Real Estate - A Great Community To Live, Work & Play - 11/21/11 05:39 PM
Oakville, Ontario is located in an enviable geographic position.  Sitting on the shores of Lake Ontario, and centrally located between the large cities of Toronto and Hamilton, the Town of Oakville with a population of approximately 175,000 still retains a small town community feel.
The GO commuter trains are full every morning with Oakville residents travelling to their jobs in downtown Toronto.  Luckily, the Town of Oakville has a number of large employers, allowing many residents to live and work in close proximity.
Here is a list of Oakville's Top Ten Employers
1. Halton District School Board  - 4000

oakville: A Month In The Life Of ------- Me - 03/04/11 11:54 PM
I'm so excited, I don't know where to begin.  My life this past four weeks has been anything but calm.  My mind has formulated so many blog posts but none got written.  And life doesn't slow down in order for you to get caught up on those posts.
I feel so guilty that I've neglected Active Rain.  Ditto for my photography site Flickr.  But I've been experiencing major technical difficulties.
My one year old laptop died and went in for repairs.  That's a whole blog in itself but I will leave that for another day.  I picked it up yesterday after … (23 comments)

oakville: Oakville Ontario - A Hot Summer's Night - 07/07/10 11:59 PM
The heat wave continues in Oakville, Ontario.  I don't mind hot summer days.  Summer is fleeting.  It's the humidity that is a killer.  It is just too sticky and uncomfortable to sit outside or go for a walk during the day.
The central air has been running 24/7 for the past 3 days.  Even that isn't doing the trick as it is still 28C in the house.   Oh how I wish it would rain.  Now would be an opportune time for a cooling thunderstorm.
I had a meeting tonight at Oakville Town Hall for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee that I … (27 comments)

oakville: Social Media 101 - My Turn To Go To The Front Of The Class - 06/10/10 12:18 AM
I had the opportunity today to sit on a panel to discuss Social Media as it relates to real estate, with a group of 40 REALTORS® from my real estate board.  The other panelists were a younger colleague with 3 years experience in the business and the Director of Communications and Membership from our board.
Because this session was an overview of basic Social Media 101, we discussed the various platforms available for social media/networking but did not delve heavily into each.
Between the three of us these are what we felt were the most important methods of communication for REALTORS® in the … (8 comments)

oakville: Friday's Fotos - Take A Walk On The Wild Side - 11/28/09 12:48 AM

Wild flowers hold a simple beauty and can turn an empty field into a blaze of colour.  Unlike a planted garden, there is no design plan, fertilizer or irrigation required to make these plants grow tall and strong.
Colours will change with the seasons, but these sturdy specimens attract butterflies, birds and bees to the area.  These photos were taken at the height of the fall season in Oakville, Ontario.  Oakville offers many areas where you can enjoy walking through fields of wildflowers.

oakville: Trends - You Can Follow Them - Or You Can Buck Them - 11/25/09 12:05 AM
Paint colour, fashion, furniture, hairstyles, toys, electronics, vacations, restaurants, you name it, they all follow trends.
Trends usually have an expiry date. They come and go with time. The word trendy often conjures up large dollar signs $$$$.  Look at runway fashions.  Would you buy something from a high end fashion house if you could afford it? Or would you look for a moderately priced knockoff from a department store?
When your child wants that hyped up  toy of the season for Christmas, do you phone every store in town, or drive miles looking for it when it's out of stock? Think Cabbage Patch Dolls & Furbies.
What kind of … (47 comments)

oakville: Tuesday's Thoughts - Life Isn't Always A Walk In The Park - 11/24/09 01:23 AM
But why isn't it?  There are lots of reasons, none of which I am going to delve into in this post.  This post is just about making the time for that walk in the park. Or a stroll by the lake, or a hike in a forest, or even just a quick jaunt around the block.  Get outside into the fresh air.  It clears your head and it's great for your heart.
Take the time to really look and listen.  You never know what you may encounter.

Come out, come out, wherever you are.

What do you do when the weeds are bigger than you?  Walk on through to the other side, of course. I actually made her go into the weeds.  She got wet and muddy in the creek and I wanted some of it to rub off before she got in the car.  It worked.

It's a great time to get out and explore Oakville's trails and parks.  Don't forget Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Burloak Drive north of the Queen Elizabeth Way.

oakville: Google & Bing - No Longer "Just The Facts Ma'am" - They're Going For Touchy Feely - 10/23/09 10:49 PM
Just when some people were  thinking that Twtter was never going to be as popular as Facebook, doesn't  Google and Microsoft make the big announcement this week that they will be  integrating Tweets into their search results.  Very interesting news.  Google says it has come to an agreement with Twitter and plans to go live in a few months and Microsoft has already launched a new beta feature on Bing.
So now in addition to searching Google for "just the facts ma'am", you will also be able to search for thoughts and feelings.  Huh?  Well isn't that how a vast number of Twits or Twitterers use the forum?

oakville: Friday's Foto - Making Waves On Lake Ontario - 09/25/09 11:10 PM

It was a chilly  56 degrees F. with a strong wind just before sunset this evening when I spotted this brave? soul taking to Lake Ontario with his surf board at Bronte Beach in Oakville.  Yes, Lake Ontario, where the current temperature was hovering around 67 degrees F.
Living on Lake Ontario for all these years, I must say I never really thought too much about all the related statistical information.  I did a bit of research and here are a few interesting facts and figures.
Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the World It ranks 4th among the … (20 comments)

oakville: Saturday Sights And Sounds - Stop, Look & Listen - 08/22/09 05:22 PM
We all know that a picture says a thousand words.  Today I have added some sound accompaniment to my photos.  Don't worry this isn't a personal sing a long.  I've left that to some great singers and songs from the past.  These photos were taken on a trail along the Sixteen Mile Creek near Lions Valley Park in Oakville, Ontario.  My dog Lola was my walking partner.
Click on the words under each photo to hear what song came to mind when I was adding the photos.  No rhyme, no reason.  As the kids today would say, just RANDOM*

oakville: Living In Oakville, Ontario - Is A Walk In The Park - 08/20/09 11:50 PM
Living in Oakville, Ontario definitely has its rewards.  How about a coveted location on the shores of Lake Ontario, halfway between the metropolitan cities of Toronto and Hamilton?
What better way to spend a hot August day then to enjoy the beautiful Oakville waterfront.  Residents and visitors alike have numerous parks to choose from to picnic, stroll, feed the ducks, or sit on a bench and watch the boats go by.
For a quiet spot visit Gairloch Gardens on Lakeshore Road in the East end of Oakville.  Check out the Oakville Galleries while there.  Two blocks south of Oakville's quaint downtown core … (10 comments)

oakville: A "Canadian Open" House In Oakville's Glen Abbey - 07/25/09 09:40 PM
The neighbourhood of Glen Abbey in Oakville is well know for many reasons.  First because it was a planned community that first began developing in the early 1980's.  The second reason is for the world famous Glen Abbey Golf Club, the semi-permanent and unofficial home of the Canadian Open Golf Tournament.
The Glen Abbey Golf Club was built in 1976 on the site of a former monestery.  In 1977 it hosted the Canadian Open for the first time and this week it is home to the Open for the 25th time.  This year's tournament is the 100th anniversary of Canada's national … (7 comments)
