oakville real estate: Meet My New Clients Bill & Sue - 11/25/11 06:13 PM
Bill and Sue** are a typical young Oakville couple.  They both have great but demanding  jobs and they love to spend their spare time enjoying Oakville restaurants and theatre with their friends.
When they bought their fixer upper home, Bill and Sue had some great renovation ideas, but Bill just didn't have the time necessary to complete all of their "projects."
Sue is becoming a tad impatient and she is tired of waiting for Bill to repair even the simplest tasks like the leaky taps.  Sue has the bug.  She knows there are some great new homes being built in Oakville with all the bells and … (13 comments)

oakville real estate: Oakville, Ontario Real Estate - A Great Community To Live, Work & Play - 11/21/11 05:39 PM
Oakville, Ontario is located in an enviable geographic position.  Sitting on the shores of Lake Ontario, and centrally located between the large cities of Toronto and Hamilton, the Town of Oakville with a population of approximately 175,000 still retains a small town community feel.
The GO commuter trains are full every morning with Oakville residents travelling to their jobs in downtown Toronto.  Luckily, the Town of Oakville has a number of large employers, allowing many residents to live and work in close proximity.
Here is a list of Oakville's Top Ten Employers
1. Halton District School Board  - 4000
2. Ford Motor … (4 comments)

oakville real estate: Silly Saturday -How Duku You Do? Have I Captchad Your Attention? - 07/25/10 12:22 AM
Because there are so many bad computers out there, and the equally as bad people controlling them, we are forced to read words, graphics, and silly squiggly combinations of letter and numbers in order to enter many sites.
Of course there is a name for these security measures.  They are called captchas.
CAPTCHA (plural CAPTCHAs)
A distorted image of letters and numbers used to prevent automated use of websites. I find CAPTCHAs very difficult to read. (by extension) Anything that a human must do to prove that they are not a computer Yes indeed when I want to make comments on websites, … (19 comments)

All of the downtown shops and boutiques will keep their doors open until Midnight and many restaurants will offer up food and drinks on outdoor patios.  Various Charitable Organizations will also have tents and barbecues set up so the sounds and smells and sights will be awesome.

oakville real estate: Oakville Ontario - A Hot Summer's Night - 07/07/10 11:59 PM
The heat wave continues in Oakville, Ontario.  I don't mind hot summer days.  Summer is fleeting.  It's the humidity that is a killer.  It is just too sticky and uncomfortable to sit outside or go for a walk during the day.
The central air has been running 24/7 for the past 3 days.  Even that isn't doing the trick as it is still 28C in the house.   Oh how I wish it would rain.  Now would be an opportune time for a cooling thunderstorm.
I had a meeting tonight at Oakville Town Hall for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee that I … (27 comments)

oakville real estate: A Message To The Parasites - Go Back Into Your Worm Holes Because I'm Not Biting - 06/25/10 11:38 AM
They're everywhere.  They're everywhere.  In my e-mail, on my website, on Twitter,  even on my blogging site.  I've had to disallow public comments on my blog posts due to them.
Who am I talking about, you ask?
Parasites - "An organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host."
I am a host organism.  I am an independent contractor working in sales so I understand prospecting. What I do have a problem with is these parasitic spammers who are intruding on my business platforms, hoping that I will … (20 comments)

oakville real estate: Moose Monday - A Fathers' Day Find - 06/21/10 01:47 PM
It's time to submit another moose photo to the Moose Monday group on Active Rain.  I don't have too many opportunities to post to this group as I don't stumble upon many moose during my day to day activities.
Yesterday was Fathers' Day and my husband and daughter and I set out for a country drive.  There was an old historic mill in Blair, Ontario that I have wanted to take photos of for a long time.  (That's a blog post for another day)
My husband was hungry and he said he knew a place in Kitchener, Ontario, not too far from … (14 comments)

oakville real estate: Foto Friday - For The Love Of Doors - 06/19/10 12:16 AM
Why is it that we often feel a common bond with certain people we meet but don't even know?  We don't even have to meet them live and in person to form this connection.  With all the social media platforms available today we have the opportunity to virtually meet and get to know all kinds of different people.
My sister belongs to a mother's group and they provide support to each other and they communicate through laughs and tears due to a common bond.  They have even met in person several times for "moms' getaway weekends" in different parts of Canada as this group lives in … (20 comments)

oakville real estate: Oakville Ontario - Being Where The Action Is - 06/16/10 03:44 PM
Driving over the Rebecca Street bridge in Oakville this morning I noticed a lot of people peering down below to the harbour.  Curiousity got the best of me so I pulled over, grabbed my camera and set out to see what all the commotion was about.

The scene below was not the normal one that I usually enjoy while walking my dog and taking photos of our beautiful Oakville Harbour.

One badly burned boat, one almost completely sunken boat and two neighbouring boats damaged.  Talk on the bridge was that the fire took place about 2 a.m. this … (30 comments)

oakville real estate: Mail-In Rebates - Give Me A Break - It's 2010 - 06/15/10 12:46 PM
With technology what it is today, it really bothers me when a large wireless/communications Company in Canada who shall remain nameless (rhymes with Dodgers) offers you the ability to upgrade your cell phone and you can save $50.00 - with a mail-in rebate.
I happened to be in a (Dodgers) store yesterday and when I questioned this procedure with the sales clerk she said "that's how they make their money"
I pondered that statement overnight and when something sticks with me that long I have to write about it and get it off my chest.  Now I'm not picking on (Dodgers) … (19 comments)

oakville real estate: My Fab Four Are Coming To Town - It's Like Christmas In July - 06/12/10 08:46 PM
I have a big problem.  Four of my favourite singers/groups are going to be performing in my area in July and August.  Who do I want to see?  All of them.  But my pockets just aren't that deep.
I'm a huge Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty fan. I've been to 5 or 6 of their concerts over the past few years and for Mother's Day my husband surprised me and gave me tickets to see Rob at Casinorama in Orillia, Ontario on July 15th.  Kudos to my husband as I didn't even know about this concert.
Then I noticed that Counting Crows were also … (17 comments)

oakville real estate: Wordless Wednesday - Bareback Deer Riding - 06/10/10 12:35 AM
I had to share these photos with you as I'm surprised they even turned out.  It was a very dull evening and timing was everything.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I was chuckling to myself and my dog was pulling her leash so hard becaue she wanted so badly to get to where the action was.  I was trying to zoom in and keep a steady hand.
So technically and colourwise these photos aren't perfect but I hope the subject matter will put a smile on your face as it did mine.

oakville real estate: Social Media 101 - My Turn To Go To The Front Of The Class - 06/10/10 12:18 AM
I had the opportunity today to sit on a panel to discuss Social Media as it relates to real estate, with a group of 40 REALTORS® from my real estate board.  The other panelists were a younger colleague with 3 years experience in the business and the Director of Communications and Membership from our board.
Because this session was an overview of basic Social Media 101, we discussed the various platforms available for social media/networking but did not delve heavily into each.
Between the three of us these are what we felt were the most important methods of communication for REALTORS® in the … (8 comments)

oakville real estate: The Sovereign House Museum - Oakville, Ontario - 06/04/10 11:14 PM
The Sovereign House Museum is located in Oakville near the west harbour in historic Bronte Village.  The home was saved from a developer's wrecker's ball in 1988 and moved from it's original  location to Town of Oakville parkland overlooking Lake Ontario on West River Street.
The farm house was built in stages between 1825 and 1846 by Charles Sovereign.  Novelist Mazo de la Roche, famous for her Whiteoaks of Jalna sagas lived in the house for about five years, prior to her becoming famous.
Renovations on the house have given it the appearance of the style of the 1910 era.  The Bronte Historical Society. maintains the property and it opened up to the … (12 comments)

Oakville, Ontario - On The Hunt For Nature Trails
Living in Oakville, Ontario affords the opportunity to be "one with nature" within minutes.  Halton Region and neighbouring Peel Region offer plenty of parks, Conservation areas, hiking trails, ravines and forests, all of which are full of interesting types of wildlife, birds and waterfowl.
Rattray Marsh in Mississauga, Ontario, just east of Oakville provides a great boardwalk that passes by the marshy area and weaves in and out of the forest.  You also have access to Jack Darling Memorial Park where you can enjoy a picnic along the shores of Lake Ontario … (22 comments)

oakville real estate: Is Real Estate Sales A Stressful Profession? - The Surveys Say Yes - 05/31/10 11:53 PM
I just read an interesting article online at MSN Money by Jason Buckland titled  The most stressful jobs in Canada. Lo and behold, there was my profession on the list, ranked #8.
Here's what the article had to say about the REALTOR® or  Real Estate Agent as noted in the article.
"Hours worked per week: 47.5"
"By almost any measure, real estate is the career that never sleeps. "The profession gives you absolutely no time off," says Luft. "You always have to be near your phone, constantly making connections, constantly being 'on.' Everyone's your client or potential client." Realtors are also forced to cope with … (22 comments)

oakville real estate: Speechless Sunday - Windows To The Past - 05/30/10 03:58 PM
Historic homes and buildings hold many stories and secrets from the past.  It's important that we embrace history and capture it to share with  future generations.
As time marches on, and land to build on becomes scarce in many areas, it is important to preserve our community's historic sites.  A big thank you goes out to those who work on our behalf to save these buildings for all to enjoy.
Yes, we are losing many due to decay and no funds for restoration.  And yes we are losing far too many to the wrecking ball for new home development.
I find nothing … (20 comments)

oakville real estate: I Went To Montreal - And All I Brought Back Was A Photo Of The Stanley Cup - 05/25/10 03:54 PM
So the Montreal Canadiens have joined the Toronto Maple Leafs on the golf course.  Of course the Leafs have had a pretty good head start so the Habs players have lots of catching up to do and the Leafs may be beating them on the greens if not on the ice.
My blogging buddy Gerry Khatchikian from Red Lodge, Montana is a huge Habs fan.  He has been keeping us posted with his recent blogs about the Habs great playoff run.
Last week I took a small trip to Quebec and visited Mont Tremblant and Montreal.  Last Tuesday I actually drove by the Bell Centre … (17 comments)
